Is that the building on the other side of the car park from the Snooker center?

We've been trying to get in places on that site for ages, but just can't seem to get anywhere .. I've heard numerous stories about the Snooker center itself .. When I was younger, I used to know the steward of the place and he used to tell me he'd go to bed on a night and then suddently start to hear the snooker balls being banged about on the tables - when he investigated, he found no-one downstairs but balls would strewn across one table (the balls where usually kept behind the bar). Apparently, upstairs in the snooker hall was used as an infirmary during the war ..

For those that don't know - the entire part of "new Thornaby" used to be an airfield from 1930 to 1958 and their are numerous reports of deaths in and around the area of both alies and Germans .. a visit to Thornaby cemetary is evidence of this as their are about 30ish military graves of both allies and Germans.

Even where I live which is about a 2 mile walk but still considered to be on the site of the old airfield, there are stories of "dead pilots" walking around and haunting houses .. specifically in the woods across the road from where I live - it was said a plane went down in the woods when it was coming in damaged to land.

As you will no doubt know, Dave - the area your talking about was where all the Hangers and airport buildings were such as offices and the navvy .. I think the Oddies pub was the officers mess .. but don't quote me on that one ..

All in all, a good area .. but at the bottom end of it now they are building a new housing estate which will get rid of a lot of it - which is a shame .. ah well ..

Hey Dave - not seen you around for a while.

No, nobody got in touch with us about it - but thanks for the heads up and we'll no doubt add it to our list!
