.. whatever version of God takes your fancy, that is.

The afterlife is, biblically speaking, associated with God and Heaven. Does that mean for one to exist then it gives credence to the other? Or, can the two of them exist regardless of each other? If so .. why?

well that of course begs the question what we mean by 'ghost' doesn't it?
I presume your meaning the spirit of a dead person in this case.

Well I don't think it would prove the existence of a God just that of survival after death. I suppose survival could be as much to do with existing in another dimension that is does to do with a God.

But it would certainly give credence to the idea. The religionists would be all over it if it was proved beyond all doubt.

You see, i've often come from the other direction - if God really existed, then nothing else would be questionable. If God appeared and boomed in a loud voice : "I am real. I exist. Worship me" - then theres no reason why anyone should question the existence of ghosts / fairies / gnomes / werewolves / vampires etc etc .. because the ultimate supernatural being is real. If God existed, then theres no reason why anything couldn't exist.

So, I'm going the other way with this question - if ghosts existed, would it add to the evidence that say God exists?

It would certainly 'add' to the credibility of God, and as you say the religionist would be all over it in a flash as well as there being an influx of people turning to religion.

What I would find interesting is how people such as Richard Dawkins would deal with it. Would they try and explain it all away or hold their hands up to proof. It's a pretty hard thing to admit that you are wrong.

Ooh big question..

It's hard enough finding any sort of proof of ghosts, and then even if we do, they may just be another form of consciousness that has no relevance or understanding to us. Hence why we cannot communicate properly maybe?

I agree that if ghosts were proven to exist as a form of intelligent spirit, it may allow people to accept the idea of God existing, but then it depends what God is to you. If God is a form of higher vibrational energy for instance, it may be more likely to prove that he/it exists. However, if we take the more human friendly term of God to mean a man we can all look up to who looks over us all, then for him to exist, we have to make him tangible...don't we? Well I think we do...lol

I'm more open to the idea of different levels of consciousness that we cannot understand yet, and God as a form of energy that links us all. Where I fall down is the God is a person or entity of some kind that we must worship...

In answer to the question though, yes I think that it makes it more likely that God would exist to more people if ghosts were proven to exist, broadly speaking...!
