Jay mentioned something on another thread that I have also encountered.
When people find out that I investigate the paranormal, people will occasionally come over a bit superior and think I'm a bit of a crank.

When I tell them (as Jay has also) that don't believe in "ghosts", they don't seem very convinced. I MUST believe in ghosts or else I wouldn't do what I do...right?

When I tell them that I believe paranormal phenomena does indeed occur but that I don't have a clue what is causing it, they look puzzled and then ask me another question about ghosts again.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Not me, since I believe in ghosts, so that doesn't really count.

BUT...one way to look at it is that when someone says "paranormal", most of the time, in general, they equate that as to meaning "ghosts". That doesn't include cryptozoology, unexplained stuff on this planet to outer space phenomena, etc. So, that could be one reason, is that they just equate it to meaning only one thing.

Yeah, people always seem to assume that Paranormal means Ghosts.

When I say I don't believe in 'Ghosts', I'm talking in the popularly accepted sense in that they are the spirits of the deported. I do believe that people do have ghost experiences though.

All ghost hunt /paranormal team has to have a sceptic or two though, if anyone said to me their in a ghost hunt team, but dont believe in them i would say 'ahh a sceptic.' Sceptics are very good and a bonus to have, we carn't all be the same and find reason to everything. A sceptic can put a medium/fledging mediums in their place lol

And yea I hear them voices in the head too lol, do you think we should all go to a asylum and stay there ;)

I think it's important that EVERYONE in an investigation team employs a skeptical attitude to things. If we are ever to get to the truth we must be questioning things constantly.

I like to think I always have a skeptical head on my shoulders, even though I would not class myself as a skeptic in the commonly accepted sense of the word. I have experienced things I cannot explain and believe that the paranormal really does happen (albeit more rarely that is reported). I also don't discount the work of mediums, I just things that things should always be taken in context.
