Hi to you all in NGI. I have been reading many books about ghosts around the world and have a keen interest in them. I love a good horror movie from the excorsist to the shining. I live close to Whitby and work within the NHS. Will look around this site and see what interests me.

Hi sandy and welcome to the forum. The Exorcist is my favourite film of all time so you're in good company.

Feel free to drag any of the past topics up that interest you or start some new ones and I'm sure people will comment.

We've also got a Facebook group if you are on there which is slightly more active at the moment.

Not intentionally, but we do tend to speak our minds quite a lot of the time.

Well you will not get anywhere in life without speaking your mind I guess. Nothing wrong with that

Especially in this field. If people don't constantly debate matters, and test other peoples theories we're not going to get anywhere. Unfortunately a lot of people are just content to coast along and when anyone upsets the apple cart it is sometimes considered bitching.

Bloody hell, I've just made NGI sound horrible haven't I?
We're all lovely really and we love a giggle…. except during a full moon ;)

So full moon you get more hairy do you. Are you a believer or not? as a nurse I have many times doubted some things that I have seen in the corner of my mind at some places I have worked in. I guess I am open minded on things 'paranormal.' You have not made NGI sound horrible. just interesting really as if the people do not have a giggle at times we would all cry. The world needs to laugh

I'm always hairy.

Moving swiftly on…

It's a tricky question about whether I'm a believer or not.
I do believe that people have what are regarded as genuine paranormal experiences and I have had them myself a couple of times. But I wouldn't go so far as saying that it was the spirits of our dear departed that are responsible for them though. They may very well be, but I've seen no proof to suggest this so far.

As an investigator it's important to me to tackle everyone from a sceptical viewpoint.

NGI contains people with a mixture of views on this and I'm sure they'll be along at some point to chip in.

Hi Sandy, Welcome to the forums.

Dok's done a good job of introducing you to our scene.
NGI is a group prepared to speak up and cry rubbish at things we disagree with. That's not to say we have all the answers, in fact we have none of them, truth be told. But we are a like minded bunch and even our true believers have good banter with the likes of me and Dok who are fairly skeptical about most reported happenings and evidence.

We investigate the paranormal because it interests us, we don't do it to make money, in fact it actually costs us money. Stick around you are bound to have a laugh at some of the things we get up to. And if you do join Facebook, don't forget to look us up on there also.

I heard one of my nurse friends telling me a story once where she was with this girl at her Dad's bedside. The daughter looked very pale and when my friend looked down at the Dad she noticed that he had past away. The daughter explained to my friend what she had seen and my friend had said that it must of been a 'spiritual death' which had occurred. I would of loved to of witnessed that myself.

I think we would all love yo witness something that we know is paranormal. I'd love to be confronted by an apparition, as yet though I haven't seen anything that I can say, beyond reasonable doubt, is a confirmed paranormal sighting.

That doesn't mean to say it doesn't happen, it just doesn't happen to me :(

Hi Anth. I have heard of many haunted places and different teams go out to investigate. I have seen the price tags on some ghost hunts also. Guess I would be too scared to join in on that side of things though. Guess I will stick to the hospitals.

Well to be honest it's often more boring than scary.

We don't do the whole public 'ghost hunt' thing. They are ok for a bit of fun but they don't really have much to do with actual paranormal research.

To be honest you are probably more likely to see something that way.
There's a definite creepiness about hospitals, I have an aunt who was an auxiliary carer at North Tees in Stockton. She told me of seeing lots of weird things, but she's quite sensitive to the paranormal.

I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet at the moment about the comercialisation of the paranormal and the ridiculous prices some teams/venues charge. I've picked many a nasty argument with others over it in the past.
I wanted to investigate Richmond castle, turns out English heritage wanted £1000 to provide someone to be there so we could have access for about 3 hours!!!

Still many places allow us to investigate for a small donation to their nominated charity and places like this should be commended for their attitude.

I've been interested in the paranormal since I was about 10 and read a book from the readers digest called "into the unknown" It was actually ghost photography that captured my imagination. As for being a paranormal investigator, probably about 6 years or so.

Hospitals are not that creepy when you have worked around them. I guess my first year or so I felt edgy. I love hospitals now. such a nice feel to the place.

Perhaps, I'd think they would be a logical place for a haunting though, many sudden deaths, traumatic deaths etc.

Not trying to scare you mind. :)

You would never scare me. Yes I guess I would be scared if I was to become fact to face with suck 'paranormal' things. but I do not really think of people who are dead. more on people who are still alive as it is them that need our care. Why would a ghost come anywhere near us. Talking of work. I really need to get changed. Got the night shift tonight.

Thank you for the warm welcome from all of you. Anth I always think that if a ghost was to haunt a place it would be where they loved to of gone while alive. I would never think of a ghost haunting a place they probably hate so much as they where probably in pain while being a patient and suffering. I always hear patients saying that they do not want to die in a hospital. So why haunt the places. If I had a choice of where I would want to haunt then I would whisk myself off around the world which would be cheaper then the prices these days.

Maybe they don't have a choice?
We hear of ghosts at English Civil war battlefields, we hear of ghosts of people who haunt places they were executed or committed suicide. A haunting tends to be, if you believe the mediums, a trapped spirit, one that hasn't moved to the light.

Not sure what I believe, I do tend to shy away from the spiritual side of the paranormal and concentrate on the scientific side.

So perhaps ghosts can travel, if they can how and why they choose to haunt a certain place is going to be harder to explain.
