Without naming names, has anyone ever been on an investigation and caught someone out deliberately faking paranormal phenomena, and if so, what happened?

Years ago, I attended a 'Ghost Watch' at the Schooner Hotel, where the attending investigation group was demonstrating how to use a makeshift ouija board to the public.

The 'activity' on the board was sooo faked that from where I was standing (behind the investigators using the board) I was able to point in the direction the glass was going to move before it did 'move', much to the hilarity of the attending public.

Needless to say, I left early...

I've been on a couple of investigations where the venue owners have tried to fake activity, one where the staff were throwing stones and pretending that it was ghostly activity. They weren't bright enough to avoid the camcorders though, and we caught them nicely on tape.

That was one location that we've never been back to, for obvious reasons.

A few occasions I suppose .. mostly of the Ouija / glass div variety .. sometimes its so obvious its almost laughable .. but it does make me wonder whether those responsible are actually aware of what they're doing.

One time a member of staff throwing a pebble - which was caught on video .. and the odd person claiming they were pushed / pulled .. but other than that, very little I'm aware of.

That's the thing with Ouija and Table Tipping isn't it. It's sometimes painfully obvious that someone is 'assisting' the phenomena, but you don't want to just come out and accusing people, because as you say, they may be unaware they are doing it. On the other hand (especially when you have guests attending), it becomes to get a bit embarrassing if other people come to the same conclusion and you don't say anything. I've developed a few diplomatic techniques to solve situations like this over the years.

NGI have also has members of staff at a certain hotel creating phenomena for us too. We just ignored it.

Have been at a paid investigation where there was table tipping that was highly dubious. Hard to prove, but a couple of people seemed to be getting carried away with their own display..lol

The weird thing is, it got quite hypnotic and you almost started to believe it was real. That was until you realised that two people out of about 6 had never left the table...now either they were channeling lots of energy and had amazing table tipping skills, or they were faking it..they did know each other well btw.

Edit: Faking is a strong word, so maybe exaggerating is better..

That raises the question tho : Are they aware of it?

I've seen people holding a pendulum and their whole arm is swinging around like they are a demented chicken - yet they are squealing with delight claiming the ghosts are doint it ..

If I can see their arm moving about - surely they must be aware of it too?? Surely??

Can't really see the point in setting things up myself as it would be far too easy to be caught out. Just 'saying' that a location is haunted seems to be good enough these days. As long as the price is right I'm sure they'll be tons of groups eager to hold their guest nights.

No Jay not Alnwick way?? dont even know who is up there tbh.

No it wasnt the location owner setting things up it was them telling me that a certain team asks to go in early before people arrive to set things up. Sad I know but I guess thats "entertainment" for ya!

Ah right ..

Don't you think thats just a misunderstanding tho? Setting things up - well, we all do that .. chairs at the Keep, cameras and equipment up around the place, strings on doors so they open on request ( ... ) - that sort of thing ..

As for up Alnwick - I'm talking about one of your favourite places .. Jeez - your not good at this Secret Squirrel Shit are you??

ahh just clicked where u mean now, so is that the location itself? app theres been stories about that place for years. And No deffo no misunderstanding, it was the way it was said and the expressions from who was telling me too. Mind you, its only what I was told, cant say it is true, but if it is then its up to them, but surely shouldnt be any need
