I am new to using voice recorders, but have got some good recordings that i have done in various houses. I am using the software: Cool Record Pro, which seems ok, but I need more time in working it out, does any one know of a better software that they use or recommend. For photos I use: Photoshop with Genuine Fractals, i find this excellent, but again need time to fathom out most of its menus.

Thanks

Hi Maureen - generally when you purchase voice recorders they will come with a disc to upload the software onto your PC. Personally I use Olympus recorders which are easy to use and relativity cheap. Some of the latter models aren't restricted to using software and can be pretty much "plug and played".
Once the files are onto my PC I use a program called Cool Edit Pro - which is straight forward to use but takes time to figure out some of the advanced settings.

I hope this helps..

Peace J

I generally use a thing called "Audacity" which you can get here (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/) .. its a free download .. Have never used Cool Edit Pro so don't know which is best .. but Audacity is simple enough for me (and I need something simple!!!)

Sure is, will pick your brains later on how to move the recording backwards and forwards and how the analysis bit works. Was just using the software the the olympus recorder but it a bit poor tbh

The programs are pretty simple to get used to - it's the cleaning of your samples that can be a nightmare!

Practice makes perfect though..

:D

I use my audio recording software.

I record stuff with my mates, guitars etc.
I find its really usefull because I thne get access to all the VST plugins i can ermmmmm aquire from various sources.

Makes cleaning up a recording quite spiffingly simple.....once you understand the interface.

The software? Cakewalk Sonar producer 8.0

Hi all
Thanks for your replies, I do use an olympia voice recorder but it didn't come with software. I have got cool edit pro, which is good, but like its counterpart cool record pro, it takes some getting used too. I think the software I use is good, I probably need more time to work and play with them!
Cheers

Stick with it Maureen - I'm sure it'll come good!

A piece of advice when you record EVP, you will generally find they're really faint; rather than messing on too much with the sample, it's sometimes best to stick it in a folder and forget about it. Once you become familiar with the software your chances of getting clearer edits will increase massively.

I remember when I first started toying with Cool Edit, some of the samples I worked on sounded terrible.

Sometimes, no matter what you do to with some EVP you won't be able to decipher what is being said - accept that fact and move on, otherwise, you will waste hours on one soundbite and still be no further forward.
