I've been on the lookout for a while for something that would provide more light for my Sony camcorder than the pathetic little IR emitter that it houses.

The add on Sony IR emitter made for their camcorders is also fairly pathetic, or so I'm told.

So on a whim I bought an IR torch from Toms Gadgets. It's fantastic. To show how fantastic it is, here's a bit of footage of it in action. This is my house looking down the stairs with all the lights off. Where I live it's virtually pitch black outside, the only "light" you see here is the IR light from my camcorder. Then I switch my torch on!

So i take it then that the "torchlight" we're seeing there is actually IR and just being "seen" by the IR camera? Ohhhh .. spare me from my pained eyes when someone shines a proper torch in them! IR flashes on cameras next and that would mean I could just sit in darkness all night! :D

Yes, the torch light is IR, it does make it look like it's a normal torch being shone. It's a lot more powerful than I thought it would be, I think I might need a diffuser for the centre though, it's so bright you can't actually see anything.

Did i say you did say that

I think as with even the SLR cameras you will still get the occasional orb but i think it would infiltrate more out!

I suppose it's down to the definition of orbs. But let's not go there again

Hhaha .. I'm with you on that - 99.9% probably are what we say they are - but nothing is absolute
