I'd still like to do these:

'Winter's Gibbet' at Elsdon, supposedly haunted by the ghost of William Winter

Marston Moor - Battlefield Ghosts

Bolam Lake - The Beast of Bolam Lake

The Eston Hills - The scariest place I have ever been to.

I don't know about them, tell us more?

I know that there are lots of legends attached to Mulgrave Woods though, about evil Hobgoblins and the like.

Evil Hobgoblins? Thats a bit harsh isn't it - did you have an issue in childhood with a Hobgoblin who used to pinch your milk money or something?? Evil!

I think they just need a cuddle and we shouldn't judge them on purely how they look - I can imagine they are dead sweet when you get to know them and not necessarily evil just because they look it!

Consider yourself warned - we'll not have any Goblin Stereotyping on these boards .. any more, m'lad, and I'll set the wasps on you - now they are nasy little evil bastards.

mulgrave woods hs got all sorts of stuff linked to it, the sandsend tunnel too, some american tourists or something about 15-20 years ago had some kind of 'timeslip' or something there and it was in the Whitby paper cos I htink they wrote a letter to it about it or something, but Mulgrave Woods and surrounding area very interesting!

Golden Grove was linked to satanist and ritualistic stuff and dog fighting/badger baitting but mainly the former cos on one rock area theres a load of pentagrams and symbols on the rock but also there were dogs found dead which apparently had been 'ritually' killed. An ex boyfriend of mine found one when he was a kid in ther with his brother. he also had s couple of strang experiences there as a bairn himself. We used to go in the day for picnics and take the dogs a lot, we used to take the dogs there at night after the pubs at tiems too, although for some reason it alsways seemed spookier tome in the day than at night.Ifelt dead comfy at the symbol bit yet hated another bit....not sure what that says bout me hehehe!!!

Here's a link to some good shots of the gibbet.

http://northumberland-cam.com/winters-gibbet/

If we are going to do this, why don't we arrange to do it on the anniversary of William Winter's death which I believe is some time in August?

i hate camping too but i'm going for it!! i talked about it with my group last year and we penned the date for then. i think it will be awesome.
i saved it for the summer too as the cold is unreal up there during the winter. i just hope to gather some good evidence, as for me it's one of the most famous "haunted" places in northumberland. the tale of the gibbet has appeared in loads of local history and ghost books over the years.
one night last year, we went up to take some pics. the ground frost was pretty heavy and the only way i can describe the woods, across from the gibbet was, magical - it had an amazing feeling about the place.

I'm up for going!
Sod the tent tho, especially in summer, more to carry innit hehehehe!

Julies if you dont want crawlies up your bum dont let them up hehehehehe xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Pam......up to you if you want to know where you are going before hand, but better from an investigative point of view if you dont. I'm easy either way unless its something specific, in which case I'll lie, mislead and be a complete twat hehehe!
