Here's a selection of results from the automatic writing experiments we conducted at Chillingham Castle.

The first image shows results from three different groups that took part in the experiment. All three groups seem to have produced a similar shape. Is this just coincidence or are some other factors at work?

To me it looks a bit like the profile of a face with a pointed nose and chin. Very apt considering the experiment was conducted in a room containing the letters from visitors who a fallen victim to the 'Chillingham Curse'. A curse that was supposedly placed on the area by a witch many years ago.

The second shows what is probably just scribble but which could be interpreted as the beginning of a word. The name 'Eleanor' had been picked up by mediums and had come through on a Ouija session during the night. There us a story of a girl called Eleanor dying tragically at the castle. Could this be her troubled spirit attempting to make contact?

well that's a good point Jay. They were on different sheets of paper and separated in the pile by other sheets but I can't be sure. Next time we should number the sheets. You live and learn.

Hi people first of all i would like to say it was good to meet some of you in person on sat night..
My wife and myself had a private reading on the night by Ian lawman and i must say on face value there were things said that he could not possibly have known about and other things i will have to watch for in the future .. Wether it came from a dead relative or some other way which we do not understand yet i dont know..
I noticed a trigger object experiment in the chapel did anything move ?
Was there any other incidents as my group had little if you discount richard felix sending Mary to the light and peace i did a couple of firsts for me Table tipping(not convinced) and ouija board again jury's out all in all i enjoyed my night but if i'm honest to many people for me. That said i hope it made a packet for butterwick hospice

Great to meet you too Yorkie. I checked the trigger object at regular intervals during the night. One of the coins had moved slightly, but not enough to rule out vibrations from all the people walking about.

As far as actual 'activity' goes, most groups seemed to have a quiet night. But this is so often the case with investigations. Occasionally you get a gem which makes it all worth while. I'm not a fan of Ouija and Table Tipping either. It's way too subjective for me but guests seem to find it interesting and its makes for a more varied night.

The big charity events are always going to have tons of people as its all about generating money for a good 'cause. After saying that, the night seemed to run very smoothly considering the sheers numbers. You'll have to come out on an NGI guest night some time where we keep the numbers to a bare minimum.

Glad you enjoyed your private reading.

After ranting myself hoarse for twenty minutes in my last location (the Chapel) it sounded like we got something - The "gold" eagle holding the bible seemed like it had a couple of bits of wax thrown at it - the 2nd seemingly on request .. when the lights came on we pretty accurately replicated the sound by tossing wax at it ourselves .. Now, whether wax had just fallen itself or someone was messing in the dark - who knows?

I did see an orange 'spark' in the Chapel which looked what I can only describe as a firefly (even though this is most unlikely). John witnessed the same thing. The jury is still out on that one.

Glad you enjoyed yourself Yorkie!
Our group had some sucess at the table tipping and the pendulums, the ouija and auto writing also produced some results.
Got to admit the people who expected raps and taps and bangs may have been slightly disappointed however during the lead up to the event several of us heard our names being called etc on the staircase from the chapel to the minstrels gallery.
In the "torture chamber" ante room I felt the presence of a maimed labourer and as we were asking out the guests heard 2 knocks (like a tap on a front door) and also a murmuring noise behind me.
Think tbh when there are such a large number of visitors we are less likely to get visible and audible results.

Mark,is it possible for you to reverse the "eleanor" auto writing into a mirror image? Just looks to me like something written backwards.

Actually, Mark Wegg heard the name 'Mark' called out in the Chapel.

You're right. 'Mary' as in 'Lady Mary' one of the most famous ghosts of Chillingham Castle.
Now that in itself would make things a little more 'suspicious' as the guest may have 'influenced' the planchette having known about this famous ghost. However the fact that I've had to flip the image would make this less likely.

Didnt Ray mention hearing Mary between chapel and minstrels? Or one of the other mediums?

It's pleasing to see the castle looking a lot tidier than it was a few years back. The new caretaker and wife are doing a stella job up there!
