The North East Aircraft Museum, formerly the Northumbrian Aeronautical Collection, began life in 1974 as a small group of vintage aircraft enthusiasts meeting very informally at Sunderland Flying Club to exchange views and information on their chosen interest.

At this time, the North East was the only major area of the United Kingdom not covered by any form of vintage aircraft group. Indeed, the only enthusiast aviation group in the whole region was Air North which mainly indulged in aircraft spotting. As the number of people attending the informal group meetings began to swell the decision was taken to establish a more formal organization and thus the Northumbrian Aeronautical Collection was born.

The museum can be found very close to it's original site at RAF Usworth, an airfield that subsequently became Sunderland Airport, and started life in October 1916 as a Flight Station for 'B' Flight of No. 36 squadron and was originally called Hylton, although when being prepared it was known as West Town Moor. Due to an increase in German bombing raids and the heavier commitment of RNAS aircraft in France, the Royal Flying Corps took over the task of Home Defence, setting up a number of squadrons, with flights spread over the length of the British coastline. The Northeast was protected by No. 36 Home Defence squadron, which was formed by Capt. R. O. Abercromby at Cramlington on 1 February 1916. Plans for 'B' flight were put in place in 1916 as a consequence of the recent Zeppelin raids on the area. An area of land just North of the river Wear between Washington and Sunderland was set aside for the new landing field.

To me .. this has probably been the most active I've been to. The hearing of footsteps and air-raid sirens - kinda opened my eyes a little bit - if you catch my drift.

Also, with the throwing of things that Andrea, Mike and Darrin experienced. Well, very interesting place, I must say

We should go back before the Most Haunted factor comes into play. After that gets aired it will be investigated to death, like the Keep and the activity will die down.....I know that sounds mad but it does happen..

When does it show on Most Haunted? September?

If it is, then it doesn't give us much time ..

I'm all for wanting to beat MH back to the Air Museum - just a shame it's so soon after we went before.

So by the sounds of it, we got to be soon looking for : NEAM Part Deux

well i watched it lastnight on most haunted--------Yes they got results where we got them too, (knocks, things thrown etc) but I would say that they have "made it more than what it was actually like" --- but that is TV!

The Plain yeah they said that moved it was vibrating abit for our team that night..

Things thrown -- yeah some of our lot had that but not my team (grp)

Tapping responce in Helicoptor was excellent for our team.

So all i can say is yeah I dont think MH is made up at all -- maybe just made more interesting for TV

I may be being sceptical but I think Most Haunted is a pile of doo doo lol. Yes I believe in some of the alleged hauntings they investigate, and I guess yes it is television so does need to be dramatised but that is my problem. Don't put an hour long programme on if you haven't got an hours worth of decent footage to show without dramatising it. It makes a lot of people more sceptical I believe.

Also why does it seem that every investigation they go on they deinitely have events occuring, surely not every single time can something happen so I believe that they would be more believeable if they said we went blah blah place and nowt happened.

oh im waffling but Most Haunted give things a bad name In my opinion anyway.

But so sad to have missed the airfield as admittedly I did watch it on MH and thought that looks a fantastic place to visit but without Yvette Fielding and her team.

Notice they are also doing (not most haunted but the airport) a charity night now as advertised in Sunderladn Echo, so yes cashing in on the fact that MH was there. Soem haunting night tha twill be not, if I read it correctly it has music by a band also lol

I've never really watched MH enough to pass comment on it .. but I did watch the one that they had at the NEAM and to be fair to them, they got 'activity' in the same places that we reported it on our visit a few months earlier .. altho, they got more of it ..

So complete rubbish and fake??? I doubt it ..

Exaggerated?? Definitely ..

But your in good company in the 'pile of doo-doo' department when it comes to MH .. but me? I can't really comment on it as I've not watched it anywhere near enough ...

The Sunderland Echo thing - is that the bit where we got a mention in the paper?? - "we is famous ya see!!" :? ... .

I agree with you but I still watch it!!

It was dear friends of mine from Ghost Haunted (my old team), that set up MH going to the NEAM! They told me that loads of stuff that actually happened never got a mention in the show unfortunately. :(

Having experienced a lot myself when on invos and watches, I can relate to a lot of what occured in this actually episode!!
