Myself and Bekki visited the Castle Keep today (9 Febuary 2008) and while we were there we noticed a photograph taken by one of the NGI team (see below)

Attachment:
Castle Keep Photo.JPG

Under the string of light there is a computer screen. This is actually an interactive floor plan of the castle. I don't wish to disappoint people but myself and Bekki think that this string of light could be a flash of electricity emmited from the computer.

We are taking part in this year's ghost hunt at the castle (28 March 2008) and it would be interesting if we could produce the same image.

I cant click on the picture but is it the one with the orange streak??

But my friend and I where thinking it was either some kind of light off a screen or maybe a candle. It does look like a light source of some description though.

Here is a picture taken by my friend who was trying to show the exact same point as seen on the castle picture.
Its not quite as bright but i think you can see how a simple light source can look paranormal.

Of course my friend wasnt trying to make that light look paranormal!

That's a very interesting picture. It almost looks to me like the bottom half of a ladies dress floating above the room.

It does show though how a light source can look very different on a photograph.

If I think back to that night - I'm not aware any lightsources within the room - when Lee took that photo, all the lights would have been out and the screens were switched off .. But hopefully when Lee see's this, he can confirm that.

Ok, not saying its therefore paranormal - but a couple of people also witnessed a similar light to this with the naked eye during the night, Lee again being one of them ..

I dunno - it could just be some weird reflection off the screen ... personally, I would tend to think a flash of electricity would be bluey in colour, similar to what Blubird reproduced .. but, who knows? Will have to have another look when we're there in March!!

Yep I'm the guilty one who took the photo. My report, to save retyping it, is here:

http://www.hauntedland.co.uk/i_keep.php

Larger images and comments can be found here:

http://www.hauntedland.co.uk/forum/view ... f=28&t=184

While the photo probably has a simple explanation, all I can say about the moment in which I took it was that the power had been cut - the castle was black! The room was empty. My thermometer and humidity reader is on top of the computer console - neither of which had a light source at the time. I was the only person at that time to be taking photos as the others in my group were feeling their way along the dark gallery so no other flashes or reflections.

My flash could have reflected off the console glass and camera jitter cause the movement but everything else in the shot does not suffer the 'shake'. The glow in the doorway looks like it comes into the room not my flash shining out.

All ideas of its creation are welcome as it helps me identify cause and effect in further photos of this nature.

Lee :D

It could be created by static, The electricity does not need to be turned on, for the screen to be full of static, The flash could have been created when an insect or piece of dust hit the screen which sent out a static charge.

Your right Bekki - it could. The bottom of it does look like its coming out of the screen - altho that could just be the angle the photo is taken at to give that impression. But again, I'd have thought static would have been white or blue .. plus, the orange colour of it kind of matches the glow coming in through the doorway .. and as i said - a few people witnessed a light like this in the keep that night (where there were no electricals around) with the naked eye ..

To me it falls in the " .. stick it in the hhhhhmmm bin ... " and see if we can get it again the next time we're there!!

Jay my friend reproduced this for me.

Image

He tried to get the standby light to make the same kind of picture but he said it wasnt bright enough.

So he used a tiny torch to make this one.

I dont think there was a torch in your shot but maybe something similar??

Well that solves it then .. :D .. what was that - shining the torch into the screen and then jiggling the camera??

Im not saying that your one is the same cos like you say there didnt seem to be any light source, but its slightly similar.

It's great that finally I have someone looking into this and great job so far! Mine looks similar to the reproduction except for the jaggedness and lumpy bits in it but damn close copy though :D

Can you now solve the doorway glow?

Then the ultimate test - solve the Casper mystery for me.

My opinon of the doorway glow is that there may be a window outside the doorway (not sure if there is or not, have to check on the night) It could possibly be a street light shining into the window which would give that glow.

The windows were blacked out and the room was totally dark. I'd have noticed a glow of that size.

I also find it interesting how it seems to be on the inside wall, light doesn't curl around corners as far as I know.

But then again, you could be right - be good if someone tried to recreate it on the night.

Ummmm now let me see!

The door light could have been something like an emergency exit sign on the other side, although they are normally green!

It could also be a safty light shining through the door way, and blurred because of the movement of the camera.
Was the camera on a fixed mount or standing on something static??

You cant rule out motion if its in the hand when taking the photo. It would have had to have been on a fairly long exposure if it was in the dark so you tend to get alot of motion blur because of that.

From memory but cant be sure there is no light outside the door, not even emergency - castle was in total darkness.

Exposure on auto - in other words no settings were made to alter it, just snapped liked it does during the day.

The nearest window is around the corner but had a black blanket over it. The room was totally dark.

It could be the flash reflecting off the polished wood flooring, But thats just a suggestion.
