Yeah it is something we dont always understand! But it does have a reputation of been scary. I have took part in Group Glass Divination before and had a glass fly of the table but i have my own suggestions as to what happended lol But the word occult is rather scary BUT a load of nonsense!

It happens to be a little more than that .. referring more to "hidden unknown knowledge" ..

The only 'scary' aspect of the occult is that we don't understand it .. you mention that your interested in the occult and most people would immediatley think of devil worshipping and Satanism - especially if that person is religiously inclined - hell, tell a bible basher that you read the horoscopes in the newspaper on a morning and they'll practically accuse you of fornicating with the Devil (or they should since Astrology is not in the teachings of "Jesus Christ Our Saviour" and generally falls foul of the commandment "Do not worship false idols" .. but then, Christianity is full of hypocrytes ... )

So because of this incorrect conditioned view of the occult with people, most are wary of the subject and are a little reluctant to dabble in it - if only they knew the origins of their religous beliefs ..

You probably will have your own to suggestions as to what happenned in regards to the glass divination but to apply those same suggestions to the occult as a whole and to believe it to be nonsense would be incorrect, misguided and potentially dangerous.

who can explain the occult
who can explain everything on any subject
just because we can't explain does not mean it is nonsense
we all have different explainations for different things does not mean we are wrong or that you are wrong

Here is a good definition of the word occult:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occult

Jay makes a good point. Religion always seems to thrown the satan label at anything which cannot be explained at first. If it is not following the words of the lord etc it must be evil. The word occult, through the media, has lost it's innocent meaning and developed a whole new aspect. Suddenly if you're into the occult you're playing with evil, you're sinning agains't god etc.

The bible has been rewritten and translated so many times over the centuries (often to suit which ever ruler was in power at the time,) even that can't be taken serioulsy as some if not all of the original texts have probably changed! And don't forget, it was man who wrote it in the first place, supposedly via god's word. Where's the proof that any of this happened, and it was not just some crazy old dictator who needed to find a way to police the masses through fear?

Let the debate continue!!

Nail. Hit. Head.

Fear is the great controller .. "invent" something for people to fear and you have them dancing to your tune and you can get them to do anything.

As I'm still a noob, and I don't know Andrea, I take it that it is a big deal for Andrea to agree on something?

BTW, how long before I stop being a noob and what comes next?

tc :)

It's good to question and be sceptical - it may save you from being sucked into something a lot of people would get hooked by. EG, religious cults, politics, fraudulent mediums and psychics etc.

People like us tend to view these from more than one angle and look to see what's behind it, or in it for the other person. I rarely commit to anything unless I fully know the implications. That's why I don't vote. They all say what you want to hear but don't carry it out if they win. The argument to vote against the party you're not happy with, leaves you with what liers will replace them for the next four years if they're kicked out!

It is also a shame that the media can take something unusual and through bad/unprofessional reporting can change the whole concept of something harmless to something sinister.

Look at the reaction over the Ouija at the last event, even when Ralph explained the truth behind it! She chose the old cliche - it's evil - don't use it!

i agree, as ralph said its because people don't really know what it is and as you said its all the bad press things like that get because of people who use things without knowing what they are actually doing or without the proper protection.

Ralph said he had an Angel board - what is that, I'd never heard of one until then - only Ouija, message and spirit board.
