I just thought I'd tell you about the strange experience that I had on Sunday.

I was sat reading and having a beer in my garden at around 2.10pm. All of a sudden I heard a loud plane going overhead so I looked up. There wasn't a cloud in the sky but although I could clearly hear the plane go over my head there was no plane to be seen. A few minutes later a strange wide vapour trail appeared overhead where I'd heard the plane travel before slowly dispersing. Weird. :?

I experienced an invisible dog once .. a dog was barking like mad - real crazy barking like it was in "trouble" and no matter where I looked, I couldn't find it and there was no real place for it to be hidden .. looked for about a hour before it went away.

Is it possible that the plane was just too high for it not to be seen (although, loud)?

As for the strange vapour trail - its said the Aurora (rumoured latest US spy plane) leaves a strange vapour trail behind, like a corkscrew effect and gives off a "whooping" sound from its engines .. and of course, being a spy plane, flies high .. not very secret tho if its loud as fuck on the ground .. 8)

I thought about it being too high, but it was BLOODY loud, plus the vapour trail that appeared wasn't that high. The 'noise' was going in the direction of the airport.

I also though that the 'plane' going so fast that it had gone over before the noise had reached me, but I had a clear view for miles around so I don't think this was lightly.

I suppose it depends on how high is high (or low) for the vapour trail. If you consider just how fast 600mph actually is (roughly cruising speed of a jet) .. something low down wouldn't take long too get over the horizon and out of site (less and less time depending on its altitude). So depending on whether you were looking in the right direction to begin with, it may have been and gone before you could see it.

For instance, a military jet flying low (as they tend to do at times - in the 100s of feet) - could literally be out of sight before you manage to locate it .. and even if you do work out the direction quickly before its over the horizon, its size could mean its just a dot and hard to spot ..

I dunno - I can't be bothered to work out the maths .. but from ground level .. the horizon is only about 3 miles away .. so something travelling at 600mph is travelling 10 miles per minute .. so .. 3 miles (plus a little extra depending on its height .. not much if its in the 100s of feet) .. roughly 20 seconds .. lets say you don't see it coming or care about it and only look when its passed you ( a few seconds later) .. you could be talking 10 seconds to locate a dot in the sky before its out of sight completely ..

I dunno .. not an impossible scenario (now your going to tell me the vapour trail was a few miles high, aren't you?? )

I couldn't be exact to be honest. I'm just assuming the vapour trail wasn't really high because of how wide it was.

I do take your point about speeds, but I did hear the 'plane' approaching, go over head and then head off in the direction of the airport. The whole encounter took over a minute.
Planes go over all the time when I'm sat out and this didn't seem the same (although it probably was).

Ahh .. you're saying you heard it approach .. pass over the top and then head in the direction of the airport .. when did you actually look up?

As it was approaching. It was starting to get really load to I looked up in the direction of it. It continued to get louder as it passed over head and then it moved away.

Only way it would have been past before you heard it would be because it was travelling faster than the speed of sound which means you'd have got the sonic boom .. something travelling so low it was out of sight in a blink and so fast it broke the sound barrier would have also shook your teeth loose .. :D

Chances are, you just never saw it for some reason .. either too high, it was a "dot" by the time you looked or you looked in the wrong direction cos you misjudged the direction of the sound .. with the vapour trail being a coincidental occurance ..

I think the chances are, I just never saw it for some reason, despite really looking.
Guess I'll never know... unless its comes back then I'll take a picture of it to prove it was and invisible plane

I remember when still at my mam & dads - there'd been a lot of aerial activity at night time for about a week .. lots of helicopters and military jets flying over low and loud during the night. Every night without fail.

One night, after a particular heavy burst of activity earlier on, I woke up and found a big bright light was shining through my window .. really bright .. Had thick heavy curtains and it lit those up and where there were gaps, the light streamed through .. but .. not a sound to go with it. Looked out the window just before it vanished but nothing could be seen other than the light.

Speaking with a few neighbours, they saw it too and it had woke them .. again, those who looked saw nothing other than the bright light and then it just "winked" out of existence .. People speculated it was a police helicoptor, and it likely was, but the light seemed situated in the back garden and, as I said, not a sound.

Spooky!
