As an aficianado of Eurovision, Dok - what do you think of the principle behind :

2) All countries should be forced to sing in their native language - would like to know whether I could hear a German love song without wanting to mount my Panzer and invade Poland.

Good job I spelt it right and never wrote "Panda" ... could have gone to the papers with that one if I'd done it!

I don't know about being 'forced', but I do quite like hearing the songs sang in native languages.

But doesn't it make a mockery though of the contest? I thought the idea behind Eurovision was to have everyone bring their own countries take on Music to the world? So Germans should sing Marching To War songs - in German .. French - Surrender Songs .. Russians just singing "DA" and "NEIT" in progressively loud voices .. and us Brits wheeling out Cliff and Bucks Fizz each year to sing "My Old Mans a Dustman" type of songs.

Otherwise, it becomes just like a foreign version of X Factor and given that when foreigners sing in English they do it almost accent free there is nothing to distinguish one nation from another. Barring Deadwood.
