Well I'd already switched to Hungary before it did, but yeah it bombed out.

Heres a question Dok : Lets say old Hump won on Saturday which meant it was to be held in the UK next year - are you fan enough to want to go to the final and watch live???

I would love to go to the final whichever country it was held in.

This was meant to be a serious thread about Eurovision. I admit I'm the last person to take the event seriously but I do enjoy watching it. Being goth and having to make an effort to find entertainment that you can enjoy leads you to look further afield. I'm sure the atmosphere would be great live.

There are certainly some catchy songs this year - Denmark, Romania, Holland I have heard, and they all sound pretty good. I might just watch it this year..!

I didn't think there was as many good sons in the second semi as there was in the first. Still backing Hungary although I don't think it stands a cat in hells.

Well Holland didn't get through...Hungary is very good, but not sure it will capture the votes for Eurovision..we shall see!

Romania is my bet, very catchy, fun, but maybe its a bit out of date, though that doesn't usually make a difference..

I think we should enter next year dressed as a turkey, singing Land of Hope and Glory. You never know, it just might work! :D

Ireland put a puppet Turkey in called 'Dustin' in 2008. He didn't even qualify, but needless to say I loved it?

ENJOY!

Yes, that sort of thing, just not Jedward, please...

Because we don't need to qualify, we have an amazing opportunity to parody Eurovision live..! Ok, they might chuck us out, but that has to be better than entering an event where we haven't a hope in hell of winning anymore, and the rest of Europe get a chance to kick us.

I thought some of the songs were good, and Sweden was good, but perhaps not worth nearly 400 points. Ah well, Eurovision always unites and divides.

Russia got it right, possibly inadvertently. Enter a group of ageing peasa...traditional women who cannot sing, and get the sympathy vote...! :D

Love it, and they came second!

I thought Sweden was pretty good too, but not a winner.
The very fact that the song had been no.1 in quite a few countries backs up the fact that doing shit loads of promotion is the key to getting a lot of votes, as people are more likely to vote for something they already know.

It was the same thing when Germany won the other year as Lena had already topped the charts in many European countries.

We even came fifth after Andrew Lloyd Webber spammed us across Europe.

Ah right, that makes sense then. Question is, does that make it a fair competition?

And to be fair, our entry was poor. The song was not very good, aside from any opinion on Englebert.

No, I don't think it's fair at all. I just enjoy it for the crazy thing that it is. I'm not even bothered about us doing so poorley although our song wasn't my cup of tea either.

That's cool. I want to like it for everything it is, but am in two minds because of all the dodgy voting. I guess the best idea is to watch the performances and ditch the voting. And the songs are getting better over time I think. :)

I flicked the odd time during the footy .. Some things stood out :

1) Ok Song for Sweden - but jesus - she deserved nul ponts for her dancing

2) All countries should be forced to sing in their native language - would like to know whether I could hear a German love song without wanting to mount my Panzer and invade Poland.

3) More Turkeys from Doks link above

4) Oh, scrap that - we did with Deadwood

5) Talking of Turkeys - what the fuck was Turkeys entry all about? Song was .. ermm .. shite .. but the whole thing reminded me of a Gay Lord of the Rings for some reason.

Thats all I saw when flicking ..
