Is it just me or does anyone else find the phrase 'Ghost Hunt' very silly?

I'm not sure what ghosts really are, and if they even exist at all; so how are you supposed to 'hunt' them?

'Paranormal Investigation' is better I suppose, but even that implies that you are approaching something as paranormal from the outset.

Can anyone else think of a better term?

I don't like the term ghost hunt. It doesn't sound serious, and always conjures up an image of Scooby Doo for me..which isn't in itself a bad thing, but well, you know..

Paranormal investigation sounds more serious and sayable than my suggestion, which is:

Anomalous Phenomena vigil or study (though the word vigil has been ruined by MH!)

Anomalous Phenomena Investigation is maybe technically correct, but a flippin' mouthful!

So they both sound worse than paranormal investigation, and I'm struggling with thinking of anything more relevant.. :?

Err..anyone else?

Hi Sanke, hope you are well.

True Ghost Hunter does sound more badass although it doesn't really reflect what we do ie.sitting in a room with bugger all happening. :D

The term I hate the most is ... is ... Jeez .. I can't even bring myself to say it as myself .. I'll quote something I've just made up so as not to attribute the term to me :

Hi everyone - just to let you know that I'm going to a castle tonight looking for spooks. I really love going to things like this - its a good night out and spooky. I can't wait - I'm really looking forward to this Ghost Tour.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I was reading 'Ghost Voices' magazine last night and a certain American Investigator was described as a 'Seasoned Paranormal Warrior'!

Hmmmmm

Another thing I've been reading quite a bit recently is when people have taken a picture of the same old boring 'orbs' and say they have 'eliminated the possibility of dust'. How do you do this I ask? Unless you are working in a bloody vacuum.

Another photo in 'Ghost Voices' that was taken outside, in a wood, at night, showed even more strange 'orbs' and the photographer claims that there weren't any flies around! Again how can you say this, it's night in a bloody wood for heavens sake. I wish people (especially magazines) would stop peddling this crap.

And while I'm in rant mode, there is also a trend for the most 'woo' of people to start off their articles saying that they are highly Skeptical. One writer describes himself as a self proclaimed Skeptic and then goes on to say such gems such as (and I paraphrase) 'When people call me to help them I would advise them not to do it from a haunted property as the spirits will listen listen in and either hide when I come or make matters worse for you.'

And while in a way, this is all a bit amusing, there is a serious side, which for me, is that some people probably read this sort of stuff and use it as their own basis for 'investigating'. The result of which is surely a watered down approach to paranormal investigation, and self proclaimed 'experts' popping up all over with no-one openly challenging them. Is it me, or is it a bit odd being an 'expert' on something that isn't even proven to exist? :?
