A few years ago I had a guy offer to come to my house and just sit outside in his van to monitor my house. He stated he had 'equipment' which he could use from his van, to detect all kinds of activity (not paranormal - natural activity such as EMF and natural gases etc) but he didn't need to enter my house at all and could prove everything I was experiencing, had a rational answer. He claimed to have IR cams that could detect movement through brick walls..

Has anyone ever heard of this? Is there equipment people can use without even stepping over someone's doorstep?

OK he was filling you with rubbish.

IR does not penetrate walls, if it did next door would be changing your tv channels etc.

Outside reading of EMF, might tell him what went on within the exterior walls of your house, but would only paint a part picture.

Gas, again, only whats on the outside, information about whats in the makeup of the ground below your house is or should be available from the local council.

To be honest I can say with some certainty this person was a charlatan.

Yeah I thought that at the time Anth. I just wasn't sure whether there was equipment that could do these things. He also said he had something that could identify any movement in the house (ghosts) and i'd never heard of that unless they were actually in the room they were monitoring. Thanks for that, puts my mind at ease ;)

I'd be more concerned about the fact that there was someone sitting outside the house, monitoring the comings and goings of you and your neighbours... and if he was challenged, he could say 'well, I'm here on behalf of...'
Might be worth checking around and seeing if there have been any break-ins in your neighbourhood since then.

I would be concerned also... if there was such equipment that could see into people's houses, that would probably increase on burglary, as people would see who is in and who is out. If in doubt of strangers, just dont trust a word they say
