I have seen someone asking for ghost tales from Darlington..

When I first started the Durham County Ambulance Service back in 1984 Darlington Ambulance Station was located in the old fire station on Borough Road sorry dont know the number.
From time to time as a relief ambulanceman I was posted there for various shifts eg 0800-1600 1600-0000 0000-0800 and had several strange happenings. These were nearly forgotten about but due to my interest of ln paranormal investigations have been brought to mind..
Bumps and bangs from 3rd floor footsteps above the mess room again 3rd floor. I have never seen anything but I was witness to possibly my stangest and I cannot find any reason for the following..
Due to a shortage of space all the old records (running sheets) were earmarked to be kept on the 3rd floor at Borough Rd as it was not used for anything else, Myself and a couple of other lads were tasked with the job, the records came in the back of a van and we carried them up the stairs to the store room they were placed in "winster Boxes" and stacked in order of year. We had done the job and went down to the mess area for a cup of tea during this break we heard the now familiar bumps bangs and footsteps.. a lad who I was with decide enough was enough and rushed up the stairs to see what was causing the noise .. virtually straightaway he gave a shout and we if somewhat reluctanly went to see what was wrong.. the records and thier boxes were strewn from one end of the room to the other. This was odd becuase no-one was up there and no-one could have got up there due to the only access was stairs only feet from us and it was impossible for anyone to have gone past us unnoticed..
This building is no longer an ambulance station the crews moved out years ago but I bet what ever was up them stairs is still there..

Sorry for late reply but alas work you know

I think some kind of carpet warehouse but I can find out if needed..
It was a weird place and I never felt at ease there even before the goings on.. I've never been able to contact any old firemen from the days when it was a fire station just to see if they had any experiences..

Ah tell ya what I'll ask about there are a few of us old timers about who worked at borough rd I'll ask them if they had any experiences there because believe me it aint normal in that place i can tell you.
It got that bad that when internal mail was delivered at night by the then duty officer they used to open the back door and chuck it in no messing about.. I know this to be true because I was one of them that did it..
Photo is 3yrs old so maybe its a different owner /business now you never know they maybe willing to let the group do an investigation or at least say if they have had anything funny happen ...

Sorry for late reply but been on night shift !!!!!!
I had a word with some of the older lads who worked like I at Borough rd and they had the same type of things happing to them.. bumps bangs etc..
One officer would not go in the place on his own he used to wait outside until someone else turned up..

Hi Guys

Sorry to resurrect an oldish thread but I found the site whilst searching for something completey different.

Just wanted to say it was nice to see old Fleet 58 in the yard getting filled up and also the picture of 'Dad' or Mr Dobinson as he was offically known. Brought back some good memories. I served there from 1982 until we ended up at DMH (Hospital).

I spent many a night shift in the Borough Road station and there were tales of the 'Old Fireman' who some said could be heard walking around at night.

Must admit that I never had any experience of him myself but good luck with any investigations.

On another note I'm sure Yorkie and I will know each other. Was Peterlee your home station?

They sure were mate. Good luck with the investigations. One of my old teachers at Gladstone street was a very keen ghost hunter. He wrote a book on local stories he had collected. It was printed sometime around 1974. Not sure if that is any use.
