Hi there,
I found your web site on the internet as I was hoping to relay my strange
experience of early yesterday morning to a reputable group.

My wife and I were staying at the above on Thursday and Friday night for a
short sight seeing/ shopping break in York, being from Newbury in Berkshire.
The inn is apparently where Guy Fawkes was born and there is a pub at ground
floor level with accommodation above. We were staying in room number 3
which is on the 1st floor and looks out onto York Minster..a fantastic view!

We'd had a hectic day on the Friday visiting various museums and we got some
dinner out and turned in for the night about 11ish. As we had to drive back
the next day we stayed off the alcohol.
For some reason I stirred in the early hours of Saturday morning, perhaps it
was a car going by, I don't know. Anyway the disturbance caused me to
narrowly open my eyes and look to my left (the way I was laying) looking
over the bed, as I was laying on the left next to my wife. Just beyond the
bed, and between this and the door between the room and the hallway, a
figure was standing. The figure was parallel to the bed and hence was
looking down the room, towards the wall which separates the hotel and the
next door estate agents building.

My narrowly opened eyes widened, unsurprisingly given what I saw, to enable
me to see clearly what or who was standing there. The figure was
approximately 5 foot, maybe a little taller, and was pretty much motionless.
Although the figure was staring down the room it was perhaps wavering ever
so slightly. There is no doubt that the figure was a woman with long hair
and of slim build and the face was quite clear. The face was of a
relatively young woman.

In terms of colouration, the figure was what I can only describe as a sort
of moon lit appearance. The room was pitch black and the heavy curtains
blocked any traces of light coming into the room and so it was peculiar to
be able to see something so clearly. From my memory there may have been a
trace of luminance (yellowy colour perhaps) about it but I'm not sure.

The woman was not in modern dress, that is for sure. She had some sort of
small hat on and the clothing was dated. Having looked on the internet, as
I am no expert on historical clothing, I would say it looks like something
out of the mid Victorian age, say mid 1800's. It resembled a long armed
tunic type dress with padding, although not high around the neck.

I have to confess that I looked at this figure, who did not move, for only a
couple of seconds given I was absolutely terrified, but it was enough for me
to quite clearly see the form of this figure. It sounds pathetic, but I put
the covers over my head and tried to convince myself that I had not seen
anything. A few seconds passed and I realised I had seen something that was
unexplainable and tried to wake my wife, having not re emerged from the
covers! Having failed to do so and at this stage in quite a state of sheer
panic I fumbled about to put the bed side light on, not daring to look over
at where the figure had been. By the time I had managed to do this and lit
the room up, the woman had gone, although my state of panic remained for
quite some time! The time was about 0500.

Since my experience yesterday, it is as if my brain has tried to convince me
that nothing was there, perhaps the bodies way in which to deal with shock.
I am a complete sceptic about these things(or was!). I relayed the
experience to the hotel staff in the morning and was interested to learn
that although there have been no other similar reports, a medium visited the
place about a month ago and found that a woman called Anne is said to roam
the rooms, so they say anyway. I don't know anything further except it may
be something to do with a tv show perhaps they were doing in the area?

Finally we thought we would take some pictures of the room after the event.
Before we went down for breakfast the room seems to be full of faint orbs on
the picture, oddly quite a lot in the same area where I saw the woman.
There is also a larger brighter orb in that spot weirdly. I can only think
this might be down to the humidity from us both sleeping in the room/ we
also had the shower on, perhaps causing orbs to form? Oddly though all the
orbs had gone where we took another picture after we came back up from
breakfast, although we didn't hang about long up there!

I hope you might find this account interesting, and I would be happy to
forward my pictures to you. I can only finish off by saying that I did see
all of this and it is not some sort of hoax, I am a chartered surveyor and
am 36, and am not some sort of nut! I have never seen anything like this
and am really intrigued to hear of any similar experiences there that you
know of / elsewhere to try and put some explanation on this.
More than happy to chat through if you are interested too, so do let me
know.

Kind regards

Nicholas

A very interesting tale indeed.

I've just had a look at the official site and it just says 'Guy Fawkes is in Administration'.

Michele told me about this place, in fact we've been in for a drinkie or 2 or 3,its a lovely place! Not been upstairs, just in the bar.
I'm sure it says somewhere (either on a board in the pub or on a menu or somewhere) its reputed to be haunted though, hence why Michele took me in there (apart from the gas lighting and the facts its a lovely place full stop!)

Interesting experience Nicholas, thanks for sharing it with us!
What do you mean about the tv show?
