The Royal Oak is one of the oldest establishments in York, and given the nature of a lot of the buildings in York then thats not bad going. The pub dates back to approximately the 16th Century although its obviously been brought up to date and modernised in the centuries that have passed, it still holds its old worldly charm.
We were going into the Royal Oak totally blind to the location itself with very very little paranormal history concerning the pub (nothing documented anyway) and the Landlord and Landlady had only recently moved into the pub so couldn't really tell us many tales, other than of a few strange feelings around the place.

Time: 11.30pm - 5am

The Building:
Approximate age:
16th century
Building material:
red brick walls, woodblock flooring on ground floor.
External noise:
Situated close to the road on Goodramgate. Minimal traffic. Another pub is situated next door and the pub sign could swing in the wind.
Other:
There are rumours of bricked up underground tunnels that lead from the pub to York minster. The pub is also home to 2 dogs. The building possibly has Electrical issues. Extension leads run everywhere, 4 bulbs had blown that day and the Socket fell away from the wall when landlord moved the bandit.
Pre Visit:
Claire recounts her impressions when sat in the pubs back bar area "On pre visit during the day the week before when sat in the back bar I constantly felt that this would have had been 'galleried', maybe not 'roofed, other dwellings around it ot the sides and further back with that as a sort of 'courtyard' are, but only on 2 or 3 sides, not a total square enclosed courtyard. The 'gallery' was made of wood. This was just an impression I got, nothing strong etc, however it persisted."
