How we Heard About The Slaters Arms

This was an investigation that came about due to the pub being (one of) the locals of resident NGIer Dell, who had himself experienced activity within the pub on some of his previous visits.

The History Of The Slaters Arms

There is very little information known about the history of the Slaters Arms other than its been a pub close to 250 years, although there is very little (if anything) to verify this information.

The Paranormal History Of The Slaters Arms

One episode inparticular prompted Dell to make enquiries as to whether NGI would be allowed to investigate the pub. Just a few weeks prior to the investigaton, Dell visited the toilets and upon leaving - spotted the dark-shadowed figure of a lady sat in the back-room of the pub. It was one of those moments that just make a person stop, make a double-take and ask yourself : "WTF was that!!?!!?". The figure faded away almost immediately after Dell witnessed it.

Before every investigation we conduct a thorough examination of the location site to highlight anything within the environment which may interfere or influence with any later investigation through the night. For instance, if there is a railway line nearby which, with the passing of trains throught the night, could cause virbrations in within the location - we'll make sure it's noted down

We also take readings throughout the investigation site (see actual locations) so as to set a baseline which all further readings can be compared againt. At present, we currenly take readings concerning the Temperature, Humidity and of the local Electro-Magnetic Field.

Slaters Arms - Ground Floor

The ground floor of the Slaters Arms consisted of a number of rooms that were of interest. Obviously, a large bar area existed that contained a smaller alcoved areas under, while the bottom end of the bar contained a pool table and fruit machine.

A back-room to the bar also existed - it was here that Dell had previously spotted his shadowey figure. The room was small in comparison to the main bar and was dimly lit (possibly even at the best of times too).

Group 1

NGIers - Mark, Dell

Guests - Bren, John

tart time - 11.45pm

Readings throughout the vigil in Back Bar area:

EMF Readings: A full EMF sweep of the back bar area indicated readings of 2MG around the service hatch raising to 10+ MG 1m above the ground in this area caused by the bars cooling system. A reading of 10+MG was also taken from the light above the door that leads to the toilets. (Note: This is also the doorway where Dell had just come through when he saw his 'shadowy figure' on a previous visit to the pub). There were no anomalous EMF fluctuations during the course of the vigil.seen
Movement sensors were set up in the area where Dell had seen the 'shadow'. These were not triggered during the entire investigation.
Mark sat in the Back bar area in silence, taking baseline readings and filming the area where Dell had seen the 'shadow'. Nothing unusual was captured on film in this location.
Dell, John and Bren sat in the seating area to the right of the main entrance. They tried calling out and experienced a few slight tapping sounds.

12.33am Mark heard a loud 'Thud' upstairs (this is most probably Group 2 as John had fell off ladders into kitchen at roughly this time)

1.11am Mark felt cold although digital thermometer was not showing a significant drop in temperature.

1.29am Mark heard what he thought is a jangling of keys. This was also heard by Dell, Bren and John who were still sat in the seating area. The noise appeared to originate from the doorway at the bottom of the stairs leading to the upper floor. No explanation for this noise could be found.

Mark then went back into the back bar to attempt some EVP experiments, before going into the toilet to listen to any results and not disturb the others. On emerging from the toilets Dell told Mark they had heard voices (but not actual words) coming from the bar area. Mark immediately presumed they had heard his voice recorder playback through the toilet door despite him having the volume set fairly quiet. Mark the went back into the toilets and played the recording back at full volume while the other tried to hear it. Dell, John and Bren all said that they could hear nothing the second time.

Up some tight stairs, filled with junk, access was gained to the first floor of the pub. This floor contained the living quarters of anybody who chose to be a live-in Landlord. Although Bren was planning to move into the pub at sometime, he still hadn't, and although tht living room area contained some of his personal belongings which he had dumped - the rest of the floor .. Living Room, Master Bedroom, Second Bedroom .. was devoid of anything you would consider needed to live in other than a skeleton frame of a bunk bed in the second bedroom. There was also CCTV camera control and recording equipment in the area of the second bedroom which gave off a little noise.

There was also a kitchen and a bathroom on this floor that only contained the basics that you would imagine that each of these types of rooms would contain (beyond, the odd personal tid-bit).

Group 1

NGIers - Mark, Dell

Guests - Bren, John

Mark set up his night vision camera pointing down the corridor towards the security camera equipment. Nothing unusual would be recorded on film during this vigil.

Mark went and sat in the Small Bunk room at the end of the corridor where he monitored the temperature and humidity.
ell, Bren and John distributed themselves in other rooms throughout the first floor and sat in silence.

Nothing unusual was experienced in these locations.

Group 2

NGIers - Claire, Jay, Bekki

The group decided to each spend 5 mins exactly in each area alone sitting just experiencing the rooms and noting things down for comparison
laire sat on the floor facing the bunkbed with her back to the wall head tilted looking at the doorway.

1.01am Claire saw a small white opaque 'shape' (about handle height on the door) to the right of the door. She had no idea what it was and couldn't recreate it in any way. Jay and Bekki were in other areas and were still during this time.
Claire also picked up on the Jimmy Carter and Kane which were repeated in her head several times.
Room next to bunkbed room

1.10am Claire sat with her back to the wall seperating it and the bunkbed room. This room reminded her of her grannys at Blackpool but that was because a cupboard was similar.
Nothing else of interest was noted here.

Jay lay quietly on the floor. Occasionally he saw small pin-pricks of light flash and then disappear. These would show in the CCTV room next door. Jay thinks it was entirely possible that it could have just been his eyes going funny due to lying down in an awkward fashion.
Living room

1.17am Claire passed Jay as he left this room where he told her to sit with her back to the external wall facing the open door looking out of it and to see if she experienced anything because he had.
Claire didn't experience anything of note.

Bekki felt that this room had a nice feeling to it, almost homely, there were warm patches in places.

Jay's first room was the Living room. Jay sat for a while with his headphones on and listened for any sounds out of the ordinairy. Other than passing traffic, people shuffling in other rooms and the odd farting mouse - nothing.

At one point, he did see (looking through the slightly open door), a shadow appearing and disappearing against the wall / door out on the landing. The shadow had no form and was just a shadow. Later investigation showed nothing that could have been casting this, and nobody else was wandering around outside.
Kitchen

As Bekki entered this room, she had the urge to lie down on the floor. At the same time, she smelt smoke and got the feeling that there had been a fire there at some point and that her urge to lie down had been connected to the presence of smoke. Bekki felt that the air had been fresher closer to the floor.

Claire briefly went into the kitchen because Bekki had been in there ages so she wanted to check she was ok.
Bathroom

1.25am Claire sat on the floor facing the window where kept getting 'The Kings Head' repeated in her head.
Both Bekki and Claire saw shadows in front of the cupboard outside of the room that they could find no explanation for. Jay said he was not moving about near there at that time. Jay then joined them for the last 5 mins in the location.

Jay entered the bathroom and found Bekki and Claire already in there. They sat in the darkness (Jay on the toilet) for a while.

At one point, the group thought somebody was walking around on the landing outside of the bathroom (interestingly, it was against the bathroom door and the adjoinging wall where Jay had spotted his shadow earlier when in the living room).

Slaters Arms - Pre Invo Vigil

In the doorway to the male toilet, Claire felt as though her throat was constricting slightly and she was having to take deep breaths. Bekki was standing next to her at the time and she said her heart was racing.

In the 'living room' upstairs Claire picked up (in her minds eye) on the image of an older woman with grey hair wearing a small hat with a black gauze type veil/net over the top half of her face stood in the doorway. Claire smelt and felt a 'warmth like ironing/laundry' from her.

In the front small bedroom with the bunkbed next to the PC room, Claire again felt her throat constrict and took deep breaths. There was a PC in the room next to it which was running the CCTV setup.

Jay, Claire and John explored the 2 lofts after the landlord (Bren) and some members of the team had been looking for a 'lost' floor after looking at the outside of the building.

Dell showed Claire where he had experienced the 'Shadow' who he felt was a 'lady', however Claire never experienced/felt anything in that room (back bar) throughout the investigation.
