Busby Stoop Inn - 2009 - Investigation Report

The Busby Stoop Inn, at Kirby Wiske - a village near Thirsk in North Yorkshire - takes it odd name from the 18th century owner Thomas Busby and the hangmans gibbet across the road from where Thomas Busbys remains were displayed after he had been hung for the murder of his father-in-law in 1702. Since then, his ghost has appeared many times with his head lolling and a rope around his neck. Outside the inn a noose still dangles from a gallows arm.

The Paranormal History Of The Busby Stoop Inn - 2009

Within the pub it is said a chair that Thomas - whilst in a drunken stupor and dragged from and taken straight to the gallows - was cursed by Busby and he swore that anyone who sat in his chair would die as violently and suddenly as he himself was about to.

Simon Theaskston, whose brewery owned the pub until 1998 said the legend may be odd and vague, but it is a matter of record that in the last 200 years or so, death has indeed struck anyone who dared to sit in the char within a very short time. It is said that many who sat in the chair were dead within days or even hours!! Eventually the chair was moved out of harms way and can now be found in Thirsk museum.

It has to be said that many of the chairs victims of the last few decades could be categorised as 'high risk'. They onclude an RAF pilot who was killed the following day, a motorist who crashed the next day and died of his injuries, a motorcyclist who died on his bike shortly after leaving the pub, a holiday hitch-hiker who was knocked downa and killed two days later and a local man in his late thirties who died of a massive heart attack the following night. But the odds against all of them dying so soon after sitting in the Busby Chair must be high enough to suggest this was no mere coincidence.

Busby Stoop Inn - 2009 - Baseline Report

Before every investigation we conduct a thorough examination of the location site to highlight anything within the environment which may interfere or influence with any later investigation through the night. For instance, if there is a railway line nearby which, with the passing of trains throught the night, could cause virbrations in within the location - we'll make sure it's noted down

We also take readings throughout the investigation site (see actual locations) so as to set a baseline which all further readings can be compared againt. At present, we currenly take readings concerning the Temperature, Humidity and of the local Electro-Magnetic Field.

Possible Environmental Influences At The Busby Stoop Inn - 2009

Main Road

The Busby Stoop sits on a roundabout on the main road through to Thirsk. Although quiet on a night mostly - the sound of traffic can be heard and, upstairs mainly, the flash of headlights sometimes illuminates the rooms through the thin curtains.

We only had access to 2 of the bedrooms upstairs, 1 communal bathroom and the corridor linking them. Another room upstairs was being used by a guest of the Busby Stoop for an overnight stay and the other rooms being the private quarters of the landlord and family.

The bedrooms and bathroom we had access to were fairly standard in appearance and nothing abnormal stood out. The corridor was dark with a few squeaky floorboards.

Pre-Investigation Walkaround

Before any investigation starts some members of Northern Ghost Investigations including our own resident medium (or guest mediums if present) like to have a walk around the investigation site and then record their own first impressions. What follows are details of the first impressions of those who did do a walk around.

A Walkaround With Group

People walked around the pub and upstairs area of the Busby Stoop. After walking through, several people discussed their reactions and impressions of certain areas. Claire noted that in the pub on the ground level, a “Father O’Riely” who was Irish entered her mind. She also noted that she smelled horse and hairspray. She also noted that she experienced sadness when talking to Bekki earlier in the evening; however, she noted that this could have been the topic of conversation.

Several people commented on their experiences and impressions of the stairs. Claire noted, the “stairs interest me.” Carol and Michele both experienced feelings of apprehension while walking up the stairs. Carol noted that she felt as though someone would be waiting around the corner. Claire remarked that she felt like she had been somewhere with stairs like that before. Michele asked if it reminded her of Haunted in York. The stairs reminded Michele of Haunted. Claire didn’t connect the stairs with Haunted; however, she thought that they vaguely reminded her of the Falstaff’s Experience. Claire noted that she thought the stairs would be a site with activity.

As people were discussing their impressions of the stairs and upstairs areas, Bekki noted that she had lost the cross necklace she always wears.

After these casual discussions, Jay suggested that people break into their groups. The pub had closed so it was now significantly quieter in the downstairs area.

Group Vigils

What follows are the group vigils that took place in this location.

Note : These vigils are presented purely in Group Order and in no way reflect the order
in which each group visited the location during the night.

Group 1

NGIers - James, Jay, Claire

Guests - Lee, Chris

Due to an incident downstairs – we were joined be Lee and Chris in this location.

Claire was in the double bedroom alone and the others were in the other rooms and in the Hallway. Chris wandered upstairs and claimed that he could see a figure stood at the bottom end of the corridor, stood in front of a closed door.

Jay and the others, except Claire who remained in the double bedroom, spent some time investigating this claim and reasoned it was probably just the way the shadows were falling from the lights outside the nearby windows (although, Jay couldn't make out the figure which had been pointed out). James went into the bathroom to recreate this, whilst the others looked on from the far end of the hallway. He rejoined them to discuss what it could have been.

Meanwhile in the double bedroom Claire was 'aware' of the group on the hallway further down and knew they were in and out of the bathroom 'reconstructing' something but didn't take much notice.

She noticed them all going back to the far end of the hallway, and then she became 'aware' of the guest (who was the only other guest staying at the Inn) in the room the other side of the wall.

Claire then heard the door to the guests room open and she saw what she presumed was the guest looking out from his room into her room and down the corridor. He then seemed to go back into his own room and she heard the door click shut.

Embarrassed the group had disturbed him she got up immediately and went into the corridor and asked the others to keep it down a bit, explaining that the guest had just come out of his room to see what all the noise was.

Bemused a little by the blank looks, it suddenly dawned on Claire that the only room next to her, and the room from where the 'guest' had appeared was actually the bathroom, and there was no door directly next to her door ... and everyone had been up at the other end of the hallway!

Claire went down and tried to recreate what she had experienced, but could not. The bathroom was, as expected, empty.

The whole layout to her, she now realised, had been different when she was sat on the bed.

James pointed out that it could have been him recreating the shadow which she had seen and heard, however Claire said that if that was the case then he would have still been down there, because as soon as the 'guest' had gone back into his bedroom she had leapt straight up, still looking at the door and come out into the corridor, where James was with the others at the far end. And she would have seen if not bumped into James heading out of the bathroom and back to the others also.

However, throughout the rest of the time in the location (and later through the night) - Jay heard footsteps on a number of occasions from the corridor itself which revealed nobody present when he went to investigate.

Also, this corridor made Jay a little uncomfortable as the night wore on. Nothing to prevent him walking along it alone - but just a sense that "something" was here ... perhaps watching.

Claire returned to the double bedroom where she was joined by Bekki, Phil and Chris. Chris was still quite excited and disorientated, commenting that he didn't know where he was or how he had got there (See Group 1 Report – The Bar Area). James and Bekki were calming him down, so Claire joined Jay and Lee in the Twin bedroom.

Claire could see a white glow around the left side of Lee. Jay thought this might have been light from the window as he saw it faintly too, however Lee had his right side catching the light off the window, not the left.

Just to note, at one point Lee got upset. Details of this are not included in this report as they are personal.

After swapping rooms Lee sat on the end of the bed near the window, Claire at the opposite end of the bed and Jay sat on the chair.

Immediately Claire sensed energy around Jay, and on looking at him saw 3 clear and distinct different 'male' features on him.

One was good looking with dark slicked back hair with a 'lock' which fell over his left forehead; 'devilish' was how Claire described him, but in a nice way, nothing to do with the devil himself!

'He' was wearing a black suit with white shirt and black skinny tie. Lee said he could see this also and that he looked like Bob Hope. Claire didn't know what Bob Hope looked like so couldn't agree or disagree.

The second 'man' had a darker face and was maybe scarred on his right side and the other 'man' who Claire couldn't see as obviously, as he seemed to be flitting in between the other 2, seemed 'threatening' and Claire described his eyes as 'glowing intently'.

Jay said at times he got the 'heebie jeebies' but this didn't seem to fit with what Claire and Lee were experiencing.
Group 2 Report : Carol, Michele, Bekki

Michele and Carol spent all this vigil sat on the beds in the twin bedroom. They decided they wouldn’t call out and would sit back and experience things. They could periodically hear members of the other groups walking in the nearby areas; however, they did not hear or see anything out of the ordinary. Both Carol and Michele felt very calm in this room. Neither Carol nor Michele thought anything significant happened in the room

Group 2

NGIers - Julie, Phil

Guests - Delyth, Richard

This was the groups first location of the night.

Whilst stood in the hallway the group experienced what Julie describes as 'unusual' EMF readings. A few times, the EMF meter fluctuated twice in the hallway where there was no wiring or anything that would usually set it off and once at the end of the double bed.

Julie captured an orb on video camera at the end of this double bed. Phil and Richard both said at the time of these fluctuations that they felt as though something small had rushed past them. Everyone agreed that both bedrooms felt 'comfortable' and they had nothing unusual to report from the bathroom.

Busby Stoop Inn - 2009 - The Barn

The Barn - Floorplan

This image is merely a representation of the location and not to be taken as an exact

The barn was situated outside and around the back of the Busby Stoop Inn. There were actually two parts to the barn, however, we only had access to one part as the other (separated by breeze block wall and a small wooden door) was used by the Landlords dogs overnight. Thankfully, they were asleep.

The barn itself was almost fully pitch black – barring a few shafts of light which shone through holes on the wall and roof and a small amount of light that came through from the dogs section.

There was barely any room to walk in the barn as it was full of various bits of junk. A narrow walkway – no doubt difficult to traverse in the best of conditions – wound its way through the junk towards the door to the dogs section. A couple of chairs were located nearby, thankfully, for group members to sit on.

Baseline Report

Dereliction

There was a large amount of junk contained within the barn area, the door wouldn't close fully and the roof and walls had numerous holes where both light and the elements entered.

Window Draughts

Numerous holes in the barn and the door which wouldn't close properly were all subject to small, sharp draughts.

Group Vigils

What follows are the group vigils that took place in this location.

Note : These vigils are presented purely in Group Order and in no way reflect the order
in which each group visited the location during the night.

Group 1

NGIers - James, Jay, Claire

Guests - Lee, Chris

ay, Claire and James visited the Barn for their first location for the night. It was dark in there - almost pitch black other than a few shafts of light shining in through holes in the walls and roof and a little light from the adjoining dog pen.

One of the first things that Jay noticed was a dark figure of a man in a top hat who was standing in the corner glowering at them!!! But, upon investigation, it was discovered that it was just Frosty the Snowman, keeping cool in the shed until it was time for him to appear to the world again at Xmas!

Although there were a few flashes of light from inside the Busby from peoples camera flashes - Jay commented on, as a separate thing, little balls of light that could be seen in the shed. Not just stationary balls, but balls that would shoot across the shed itself from one side of the other. These lights were faint - just above the level of noticeable - and which left a tail behind them as they moved.

Claire thought that this effect could possibly be caused by Jay seeing raindrops being lit up at certain points, which were coming in through the slats in the roof, as when she saw little moving, disappearing lights this is what they were. Claries description of them did not match Jays exactly though, so possible they were describing different things as Jay says he saw the lights before it started to rain as well as during.

When sat on the stool Claire felt the right side of her leg and lower torso go freezing cold. Temperatures were taken but no difference was noted.

Claire saw in her minds eye in front of her a dull khaki green plane with 'normal' sized wings, not huge long ones, and she wasn't sure if it had 2 cockpits or just the 1.

She described the cockpit/s as being uncovered, and like the old racing cars, they had wood with leather round them.

Jay said he thought this might be linked to something associated with the airmen from WW2 who had apparently died after sitting in the 'cursed Busby chair'. However Claire felt that it had nothing to do with that, to her it was more of a private plane owned by someone who would fly it/own it for fun and after the war, not during it.

There were a few cold spots and breezes in the shed, although it was felt that these were explained by the aforementioned holes in the roof and walls.

Claire sensed a change of 'energy' in the top right corner, which she felt was a male who come to see who was in the barn and what they were doing there, however she felt it was a weak energy and it only lasted about 30 seconds.

At one point, the security light outside the shed (and on the wall of the Busby Stoop) came on indicating that somebody was heading out to the shed. After a short wait - nobody showed, and no sounds of footsteps or doors either - so Jay went to investigate once the light had then gone out. He couldn't find any reason - other than a large moth flying close to the sensor, perhaps - as to why the light would just come on.

About halfway through the vigil it began to rain outside and it was difficult to determine if any noise we heard was just the rain - or something else. Same with the 'lights'.

Group 2

NGIers - Julie, Phil

Guests - Delyth, Richard

Michele and Carol entered the Barn. They sat on two of the high stools near the entrance to the barn. They closed the doors to the barn and decided to listen and sit quietly.

They did not try to call out during this period. At several points, Carol remarked that she felt as though there “was someone in there with us.” During their visit to the barn, they did not experience very much. There were two potentially significant occurrences. Both Carol and Michele thought they saw faint lights outside the barn at several points during their stay.

Also, Carol and Michele both periodically thought they heard people approaching the barn. At one point, they were convinced that Jay and Claire were walking toward the barn/shed. During their stay, it was raining quite heavily so it was difficult to hear.
Group 1 Report : Julie, Phil

Julie and Phil spent 15mins in this location whilst the rest of the group were having a break as they had to leave early. After not experiencing anything unusual in there for the majority of the time Julie noticed 2 LED looking lights in the top right hand corner of the barn which she could find no explanation for. She captured these on her video camera.

Busby Stoop Inn - 2009 - The Bar Area

The Bar Area - Floorplan

This image is merely a representation of the location and not to be taken as an exact

The bar itself consisted of a largish L-Shaped room. At one end – near to the toilets – were a pool table, fruit machine and jukebox while the other end around the ‘L’ was more a restaurant area.

From this dining area – the kitchens could be accessed and also the stairs leading to the locations we had access to in the Busby Stoop, upstairs.

Group 1

NGIers - James, Jay, Claire

Guests - Lee, Chris

As people were in here constantly chatting, Julie and Phil as they packed to leave and the guests as they returned from their short stay in the barn (all of 10 minutes!), this wasn't done as a proper vigil.

However Claire felt drawn to the machine at the far end of the bar and went and spent time alone in that area.

Whether she was sat on the stool or on the floor, facing the bars or facing the wall she just couldn't settle, she felt as though she was sat on the 'wrong' place, and couldn't find the right place!

Irritated, after ten minutes she headed upstairs with Jay, back to the double bedroom to see if they would get the same transfiguration type experiences as earlier.

Jay sat in the chair, Claire on the floor in front of him as before. People came in and out of the room at different times throughout this.

Claire did see the same energies on and around Jay, only they felt much weaker this time round. Jay didn't feel anything.

After ten minutes Richard took Jays place and Claire remained in the same spot, expecting to see the same on Richard. She didn't, and as Richard experienced nothing unusual either after a further ten minutes they called it a day and went downstairs to rejoin the others.

NGIers - Julie, Phil

Guests - Delyth, Richard

Group 2 Report : Michele, Carol, Bekki, Lee, Chris

This was the groups first location, and as the group’s time in the ground floor began, Carol noted that she “felt nothing in the room.”

Earlier in the night, the staff at the Busby Stoop explained that in the corner of the room furthest from the bar on the ground floor, there was a highly active corner. They said that there were multiple reports of a misogynistic male spirit in the corner. Keeping this in mind, Carol and Michele proposed beginning their investigation in that corner. Carol suggested that, given the sexist nature of the reported spirit, it might make sense to seat the two men in the group, Lee and Chris, in the area frequented by the spirit. Lee and Chris were amenable to this plan.

Lee and Chris, after sitting down near the window, reported that they felt cool; however, they also noted that they just took their coats off so it could simply be a physiological adjustment. Lee noted that his legs were hurting him. Michele also noted that her legs had been hurting her since she arrived. The sensation in her legs was similar to the physical exhaustion experienced after running for a long time.

Lee remarked that he felt anxious and “dizzy” as he sat at the table. Carol noted that she also felt cold. After a few moments of quiet, Michele asked if anyone was feeling anything. Lee noted that he “just [felt] really dizzy and cold.” After a moment, Lee noted that he felt “extremely cold.” He also remarked, “oh my god, it’s going to happen to me, isn’t it?” in a slightly concerned tone.

Lee noted, “I just feel like I’m stood outside.”

Bekki thought there might be something inside, near the pool table. Carol went into that area and began calling out. “Is there anyone there?” There was no noticeable reaction to this question. Carol continued to try to call out, asking for something to “come say hello.”

Leaving the area of the misogynist spirit, Bekki walked toward the pool table. She noted that there is something around here. As the group followed her into that area, Lee noted that he experienced “tingles up and down spine’ as he walked past bar. Carol and Michele also noted that they felt tingles on their back and neck as they passed the bar.

As she stood near the pool table, Bekki reported that she felt as though there had been a drunken argument there. She also said that she understood why people had been experiencing pain in the legs. She noted that she was sensing a gentleman and it was “almost like he looked after the place, and, he’s walking funny like he’s got something wrong with his legs.” She thought that the pain in his legs might explain people’s experience of discomfort in their legs.

Standing by the pool table, leaning over it slightly, Lee noted that he felt “very, very angry.” Michele asked if this anger was targeted at anyone or anything? At first, he didn’t think so. He explained that he felt it more strongly toward the back of the room. Michele asked if he wanted to walk into that area to see if it got stronger. He walked slightly further back into the room. Again, he emphasized that he felt very angry. Michele asked, “at whom or what are you angry?” He paused for a second and slowly said, “I feel angry at a group of men. It’s as if they should be shouting at someone over there.” He pointed toward bar. Carol asked if he felt like himself. He said that he didn’t really feel like himself. He also noted that his mouth was very dry. Michele suggested having a glass of water but he didn’t respond to that.

During this exchange, Carol continued calling out. She asked if anyone was there and if they were, she asked them to make a noise. There were no discernable responses.

Chris noted that he felt “butterflies” in his stomach when he walking though middle of the room, past the bar. Interestingly, Carol, Michele, and Lee also experienced a physical sensation when they walked past the bar. Michele, Carol, and Lee described it as a tingle on their backs.

Still standing by the pool table, Lee noted that his back had begun to ache, as if he was experiencing a “medical problem like arthritis.” He reported that this was a fleeting feeling, which came and went as he stood there. It was not a constant sense of discomfort.

Carol asked how the men had felt in when they were sitting in the corner in the far area of the room. Both remarked that they felt cold there and that their legs ached. (Lee noted that they played football yesterday, so it was possible that, for them, this physical sensation was a reaction to the previous day’s physical exertion.)

Still standing near the pool table, Lee noted that he felt like he wanted to go into the (men’s) bathroom. Michele encouraged his to do it if he wanted to. He did. He stayed in there for about 5 minutes. When he came out, he reported that the bathroom felt cold; however, he noted that it was cold in there so that likely explained it. He emphasized that his mouth felt dry. He also noted that he now felt “wobbly like he’s had a lot to drink.” He specified that he had not consumed any alcohol on the day of the investigation. Lee remarked that he was interested in going into the women’s bathroom now. I told him that he should go in if he wanted to. He and Chris went into the women’s bathroom briefly, staying about 2 minutes. When they came back, Lee commented that he didn’t like it in there. He felt angrier in there and really didn’t want to be there. Chris said that he felt normal in the bathroom.

While Lee and Chris were visiting the bathrooms, Bekki was picking up a man. She explained that he’s was telling her she’s not allowed in the pool area of the bar. He told her this in a friendly way. Bekki thought that during a previous time, the pool area would have been an exclusively male area. She felt that someone was trying to stop us, meaning Bekki, Carol, and Michele, from staying there because we are women. Standing near the pool table, the names Chuck and Jack entered Bekki’s mind. Bekki & Carol called out and asked for noise/there was a faint tap near the bar. Carol asked, “can you make it more obvious? We can’t tell if it’s you or someone upstairs?” Bekki remarked that at the time of the noise at the bar, she felt as though an ice-cold breeze. After a few seconds, Bekki asked, “Jack, give us a noise.”

As Bekki called out, Carol and Michele both noted that they were experiencing “heavy legs,” as Carol explained it.

In the meantime, Lee was sitting paralyzed in a chair near the pool table, toward the front windows of the pub. After he was able to move again, Lee noted that he felt stuck in that seat, unable to move from his place. For him, it was a very terrifying experience. During this period, Carol continued to call out. She asked anything present to “give us a sign. Don’t hurt any of us, but make yourself known.”

Bekki called out. She asked, “make the white ball on the table move. Move it for us.” She was referring to the white pool ball on the pool table. She had placed it in the spot on the table where there is a special mark for the white ball. Carol also encouraged anything present to move the ball. She said, “yes move it for us!” in an encouraging fashion.

Michele, Carol, Bekki, Lee, and Chris all stared at the ball on the table. After a moment, Lee thought he might see the ball shaking. Bekki also thought the ball “might be vibrating;” however, both noted that it could be the shadow on the ball that was giving it the impression of movement.

Despite the initial sense that the ball was moving or vibrating, the ball didn’t move from its original spot.

After the attempt to move the pool ball, Lee was beginning to get slightly unnerved. He was still not “feeling like himself.” He seemed very concerned about this. Carol and Michele were standing opposite him. Carol asked the “spirit named Jack could please move closer to Michele. Leave Lee alone and come see me and Michele.” At this time, Lee noted that he felt “quite terrified.”

Carol interceded again. She asked “Jack or whoever you are” not to scare Lee too much. Lee noted that he was most scared when he couldn’t stand up. After a moment, Lee seemed calmer. Michele and Carol asked if either of the men wanted to try calling out since they seemed more affected by any potential presences.

Lee decided to call out. He asked, “Jack or whoever was there, do you want to try to move one of us? Do something for us. Swing the light. Do something so we know you’re here.” Again, there was a faint knock near the bar; again people weren’t sure if it was a knock or people moving upstairs. Lee asked if they/it could to it on the pool table instead.

As he was calling out, Lee observed that he felt completely normal. He was “like himself again.” He noted that he was quite happy.

Carol inquired, “Where did you go Jack?” She paused. “Did you move to the other side of the room?” Lee asked if we should we move down there. Carol told him he could if he wanted to. Lee walked from the pool table area down to the table frequented by the sexist spirit. Lee walked down to the table and then back. He noted that he “couldn’t walk properly.” Carol suggested that it was the present spirits/entities taking his energy.”

Lee was the only one to walk down to that area. The rest of the group remained focused near the pool table. Chirrs remarked that this was supposed to be a very active area.

Carol began calling out again. “If you’re not called Jack and we’re calling you Jack, knock. And we won’t keep calling you it.” Lee and Chris heard a knock from the back (near sexist table). Bekki & Michele, who were still near pool table, noted that it felt icy cold there now.

Lee noted that he hadn’t wanted to say so when he first experienced it but the anger he felt was directed at someone: Bekki. He said that he felt really angry with her and that it had scared him. Bekki wasn’t surprised to hear this.

People paused silently for a few minutes. Lee interrupted this by asking if we should try scrying. Carol said that you “can if you want to.” Lee walked over the mirror hanging on the wall near the pool table. Michele, Chris, Bekki, and Carol followed him over. Lee stared into the mirror for a minute and he began to vocalize his impressions of himself. He noted that his “chin was getting longer.” He found it “hard to smile.” He also noted again that his mouth gone dry. Other people joined in the vocalization process. Chris saw him as shorter and Carol agreed. Bekki saw a “flash of negative image.” Carol also observed that he looked evil. Michele commented that he was making a face that looked quite mean.

Lee feels angry with Bekki again. With that feeling of anger he steps away from the mirror. Michele asked what he felt angry about. Lee confirmed that he felt angry with Bekki again. He apologized to her for it. He said that the anger was limited to Bekki. He felt completely OK with Michele, Carol, and Chris. Bekki noted that she wasn’t surprised because she “was the sensitive and knew that they didn’t want her in here.”

Lee continued to comment on his previous sensations near the pool table. “When I was over there I felt like there was a group of guys mocking someone, I wasn’t sure if it was a man or a woman.” Carol suggested that if it was possibly the sexist spirit, perhaps we should refocus on the other side of the room. The group moved back down to that area.

As they walked down, Michele asked Lee, “do you usually pick things up?”

Lee answered, “not at all; I actually came tonight thinking that nothing would happen. It’s quite…something. I feel quite brave though. I feel like it’s not me who’s doing it.”

As the group settles in around the table, Carol begins calling out in a taunting way to the sexist spirit. “Alright, we hear you don’t like women. There are three of us here now. And we’re not scared of you! Michele, are you scared of him?” Michele confirmed that she wasn’t. “Are you scared Bekki?” “Nope,” she replied. Carol continued “so come on and do something. We’re not scared of you. Get on with it!”

Chris and Lee, who were sitting by the window, said that they felt colder. Lee thought that a particularly cool breeze picked up when Carol asked Bekki and Michele if they were scared. Lee said “I know you said you weren’t scared Bekki but I got the feeling that you should be.” Bekki laughed and said,” but I’m not.” “So there you go, she’s not,” Carol remarked.

Lee observed that he felt angry again. He was “trying not to look at Bekki because it makes him angry.” Michele asked, “you don’t feel angry when you look at Carol or me?” Lee confirmed that he didn’t. Bekki asked, “what about me don’t you like?” Lee commented, “you’re just cheeky.”

Carol observed that “he could be coming through you. What’s your name? Do you feel a name coming into your head?”

Lee thought for a moment and answered. “I still feel like me; there’s no one talking to me in my head.” Looking toward Bekki, he added, “I just can’t look at you. I’m sorry.” Bekki assured him that “it’s alright.”

Carol called out again. “Come on Jack, if this is you, come on!”

Lee commented that he “can’t move his legs from his waist down.” He thought that “the guy [he’s] getting might be in a wheel chair.” His “legs felt heavy like someone had hit him in the shins with a baseball bat and broke them to the point where he couldn’t walk.”

Michele asked Chris how we doing. “are you feeling anything, Chris?” He observed that he felt more anxious in this area. Lee interrupted. “I feel like you’re about to offend me.” Chris responded in a shocked tone. “Me?!” Lee nodded. Then, he remarked that his “jaw hurts.” He paused and then said to Chris, “I really do feel like you’re going to say something that is going to cause us to fight.” Chris asked, “a fight or a brawl?”

Bekki interrupted, noting, “a brawl.” Lee noted, “I’ve calmed down about Bekki but…I really don’t feel well.” Carol suggested that Lee should step outside if he didn’t feel well. Then she called out to whatever was influencing Lee. “OK, let’s leave Lee alone, leave the lads alone, come over to us, and come affect me and Michele.” As she said this, Lee began to kick or tap the table with his foot. Carol asked, “Is there a reason you’re doing that?” Lee commented that it’s “not him. He can’t stop it.”

Lee noted that whatever was influencing him had gone away from him again. “He’s my best friend again,” Lee said with respect to Chris. Also, his jaw stopped aching.

Carol continued trying to get the being to come influence Carol or Michele. She tried antagonizing it. She noted, “if he’s going to hate women at least he can do something about it. Come do anything to us.”

Lee interrupted. He noted that, “I need to go to the toilet but I have no idea where it is.” Michele responded, “you’ve been there before.” Lee explained that he had “no idea where it was.” Carol showed him where it was and Chris went with him.

When she got back, Carol noted her mobile phone has been turned off. She didn’t turn it off because she had been anticipating a phone call. She remarked that the battery didn’t die either. She found this very strange.

Chris rejoined the group. He commented with some concern on Lee’s experiences and his potential anger toward him. “I’m not scared of him but he’s a big lad…” he said with concern.

Lee also returned and commented on his experiences so far. “At first I wanted to bat him; but then he terrified me and that’s what stopped me; my legs wouldn’t work and I wanted to run away.” Bekki commented that this place seemed to bring out strong emotions in people.

Chris enthusiastically agreed. He commented that he had “texted his girlfriend 3 times to say I love you.” For him, this level of effusiveness was out of character.

Chris and Lee remarked that they felt very emotional. Chris thought that “something really bad has happened.” They both seemed to vacillate between anger and sadness. Lee commented that it was a “very sad room.”

Lee began to speak at length about his perceptions and experiences in the room. Lee commented that he “feels sick almost with the sadness. Someone’s lost a loved one in this room. [They’ve] watched them die from over there, that’s where the anger comes from. So, it’s like someone’s been dragged from here outside. How do I know that? I’m being beat to death…with an ashtray? How do I know that? I’ve never been beat before in my life? Then they stopped him from getting outside and saving him. There were about 5 men?”

Chris interrupted him. “Is this the group from before?”

“Yeah,” Lee confirmed. He continued his observations. “There was a gang in here and a gang in there. And this gang has pulled one of the other members over here and they realize that can’t kill him in here so they drag him outside. The other guy can’t get out for some reason. Cause he is in a wheel chair.”

Bekki asked, “can you describe the man in the wheelchair?”

Lee paused for a moment. “He has dark brown hair.”

He continued, “I want to run from here to the pool table. [I] don’t feel myself, like I’m stood outside my body. Is this where they served food? It isn’t where they used to. I feel like I want to go outside and help him, as if it’s happening now. I feel as if I’ve been crying. It’s as if I can’t make myself physically move. I really want to cry…I remember going to the toilets but I don’t remember getting back here.” Eventually, he felt normal again.

Carol began to call out. Michele joined her periodically. They attempted to antagonize Jack. There was no response.

Eventually, the group’s time in this room ended. As people stepped outside to have cigarettes and cups of tea, Chris and Lee continued to feel antagonistically toward each other. They both wanted to fight. They were kept separated during this period.
Group 1 Report : Julie, Phil, Delyth, Richard

As the group caught the back end of the drama from Group 2's time in here they were a little late starting this vigil!

However once they settled down Richard said he felt as though he was drunk, which he obviously wasn't.

The EMF meter recorded a sudden high fluctuation for which they could find no cause, and Julie captured on camera an orb, on the same chair Richard had been sat on when he reported feeling drunk.

Busby Stoop Inn - 2009 - Group Seance

We conducted a group séance in the bar come the end of the night. All were present barring Julie & Phil . Jay and Claire stood outside the circle and directed proceedings.

After sitting for a while in silence Jay and Claire alternated between themselves, calling out and trying to make contact with any spirits that may have been present. Unfortunately, there was no noticeable response despite their best efforts.

At one point Claire saw a dark figure shaped shadow, about 5'11, down towards the door to the female toilets. No one else saw this, however as everyone in the circle had their eyes shut it would have been certainly interesting if they had! She tried to recreate this but with no success, and she could find no obvious cause for it.

At one point she saw something flit across both James and Chris, however neither of them felt anything unusual.

Of the sensitives who were sitting in the circle - none reported any contact with any entity and never felt any spirit was present or in the room.

Late on during the session - we got a little shock out of the blue. Loud footsteps reverberated above us from upstairs. Woke people up a little!

Claire went up to investigate, and as she got a few steps up she saw that the door to the room at the top of the stairs was wide open!

After a moments quick (and private) panic she heard the toilet flush in the bathroom at the far end of the corridor, and realised that this was the room that the Inns only other guest for the night was staying in (this was the real room, not her 'imaginary' room from before!). And as she didn't want to appear to be a stalker, or a ghost, she quickly scuttled back to rejoin the group in the bar.

She reported her findings and the group sat for a while listening, waiting for the guest to retrace his route back to his room. Silence.

After a short while Claire ventured back upstairs, and saw that the door to the room was now shut. Strange no footsteps were heard the second time.....maybe the guest had caught sight of Claire lurking around the stairs and was scared so crept back to his bedroom to avoid her..............

As it was starting to get light Claire went into both bedrooms tidying up. She was joined by Jay in the twin bedroom. They both sat in silence in here, looking out of the window. Nothing eventful occurred, and eventually they called it a night.

There was nothing more to report from the séance and nothing of note was recorded.

Sounds like a good, thorough investigation, wish I could have joined you!
Living just down the road from the Stoop, I go there pretty regularly. On the first occasion I visited, I stayed most of the day until closing time. After around 8pm, me and the 2 people I was with were the only ones left in the pub, apart from the barman obviously. So it was very quiet. I spent most of the evening sitting up by the door to the ladies toilets as we were taking turns playing pool. I felt nothing up there but did get an unexpected panic when my friend left me at the sink washing my hands in the ladies'. It was a very brief moment and I just felt so scared and that I had to get out. I did, quickly.
The most unsettling experience there on my first visit (same visit as above) was when we arrived to have Sunday lunch. We picked a table down near the kitchen door, next to a dolls house. Almost as soon as Id sat down, I asked my friend if we could move. I just felt uneasy and a bit sick where we were. I wouldnt sit at this table again, ever!
You should have popped down the road a little to Alanbrooke Barracks/RAF Topcliffe. I live here and regularly take the dog out for nightime walks around camp when I cant sleep. Now this is a place that is most def spooky :)
