Jimmy Allens nightclub exists in the center of Durham City alongside the River Wear. Situated under the arched Elvet Bridge - the nightclub has been a popular venue for party goers in the seven years of its existence.

Upper Bar

The upper aspect of the bar was close to the entry point into Jimmy Allens. A number of soft chairs were situated near to a small bar area. It was in this area where it is said that Jimmy Allen was imprisoned and some of the old walls of his cell still remain in place.

Up a couple of steps from this seating area were a set of stairs that led to a second level within bar. A large standing area surrounded by more soft chairs can be found here and behind a barred partition another bar could be found. There was no access to this bar and so any noises from this area could not be investigated.

Group 1 Report : Jay Claire Lee John

The group spread out over all this area for 15 minutes.

A group glass divination was done after 15 minutes in the 'nook' with Claire calling out however the glass did not move and Claire felt their was very little energy present at that time.

Whilst seated in this area Jay picked up on a 'crazy dancing man' who reminded him of the hermit from the film 'Life of Brian'.He had scraggy hair and a scraggy beard,wore rags and was dancing around everyone.Jay sensed he had been a prisoner here and his years of solitary confinement had sent driven him into madness.

Later in this area Jay also got a word he couldn't make out exactly,just that the beginning was 'Tr' and it ended in 'ture'.His first instinct to say 'Torture' felt wrong to him and he wanted to say 'Troiture',although he had no idea what this word meant,or if it was a name etc.

Also in this area Claire briefly picked up on an angry man who was shouting but this was just a flash and she had no idea who he was or what he was shouting as the sense of him was so brief.

Group 2 Report : Pam Derek Mark

2.30am The group has moved to the 'nook' where the ouija is located. John and Pam use the board. The planchette moves slowly to G and then S when asked for the initials of a name.

After a while of asking for a name again, the planchette moves slowly again to G and then to E and P.

Mark and Derek also join in the Ouija session The planchette moves quickly towards John on three occasions but nothing is conclusive.

The groups merged for the last hour and individuals went and re checked things and sat in areas they felt drawn to.

When Jay was sat in the upstairs bar on his own he heard some noises he could not account for.Claire joined him 5 minutes later and he asked her if she could hear anything;they both heard what could be described as 'footsteps walking on dancefloor' although there was only the 2 of them in the room and they were both sat down near the bar.

Mark joined them and several other taps and small bangs were heard by the 3 of them in this room which were unaccounted for,however as people were moving downstairs and although the shop upstairs was believed to be empty it was not able to be fully checked.Also although the noises seemed to be coming from this room, outside noise and the acoustics of the place as well as the general noises the building and its contents make naturally could not be ruled out as the cause for this.

Jay sensed there was a person behind the bar,and several noises were heard by Jay,Claire and Mark from this area,however as it was partitioned and there were lots of electrical appliances (fridges etc)it was again impossible to establish the cause of these noises.

Lower Bar

At the bottom of end of the nightclub was another bar area with a large standing area / dance area situated in front of it. An old, worn away fireplace was against one of the walls in this area.

Down a couple of steps we found a seating area consisting of two large tables with soft seating arranged around them.

From this seating area could be found a doorway which led into what was an alleyway which weaved between Jimmy Allens and the building next door. The alley was now roofed and a part of the establishment and was being used as a storage area and provided us limited access. It was through this alleyway that the prisoners held within the gaol were led to the market place to meet their end.

Group 1 Report : Jay Claire Lee John

Initially the group spread out over this area.

Claire was the first person to go to the cell area.When stood at the end of the 'broken cell wall' she immediately felt a severe stabbing pain in the middle of the right side of her back.This was so strong she moved away to lean on something.As soon as she moved the pain left.Thinking nothing of this she went back and stood in the same area,only for the pain to come back as soon as she stood there.Again,when she moved the pain left.This happened 4 times with severity and a further 4 times where it reduced to a dull ache and eventually she could stand there and feel no sensation.The area seemed to be about 1 metre square where she felt this,and each time she moved out of this area the sensation left.She did not mention this to the others at the time.

Not long after Jay came and stood in the spot and remarked he felt a stabbing pain in the right side of his back.When he moved from that spot it left,and when he returned to it the pain also returned.Claire then told him the same thing had happened to her.

20 minutes later Lee came up and stood in the 'spot'.Claire and Jay had not told anyone about their sensations there.He remarked that he felt a pain in the right side of his back.Jay asked him to show him where the pain was and he indicated on himself the same area both Claire and Jay had felt the pain.Again with Lee,the pain seemed only present in the one spot.All the readings taken of this area were normal.

When sat with Claire on the step of the 'cell door' where the back pain had been felt Jay picked up on a male who was 'a bit of a dandy'...with his hair tied in a ponytail and what Jay calls a 'dartonian' beard (thin moustache,pointy beard), wearing a billowing white shirt and leggings.He 'saw' an image of this man being led from his cell to the gallows where he was to be hung.A bag was placed over his head and a rope around his neck.However he was 'reprieved' right at the last moment and was taken back to his cell to await the 'official' reprieve and/or to collect his possessions.The guards did not believe the man was innocent and as they feared he'd vanish once he left they took matters into their own hands and killed him.Jay does not know what he had been accused of but feels it was something to do with children.He also got the year 1790 but is unsure if it is connected to this event.

During the time Jay was sensing this John was sat on his own on the stairs near the toilet,where he suddenly felt 'incredibly sick'.The only other time he had felt like that was a few years ago when he had a 'severe stomach bug'.This sensation was only experienced whilst he was sat on the stairs.Later,when he was alone in the bottom bar area he felt a general ache in the left side of his back.He did not know about the sensations Claire,Jay and Lee had experienced here earlier.

Group 2 Report : Pam Derek Mark

1.07am Pam starts to pick up on an image of fingernails scraping down walls and someone marking off the years that they had been incarcerated on a wall. She then picks up on an nun and the name Sister Monica Jones. She wears a blue habit rather than a black one, and seems to have performed some sort of wedding service in the building.

A big grey horse is then sensed by Pam but nothing to do with Jimmy Allen is picked up on. Pam feels that Jimmy isn't present in the building.

She has images of lots of bodies with their hands shackled getting pulled by their knees. There is also a stench of feaces and urine.

There seems to be many priests and monks all over the place too.

1.15am Pam feels a rope around her neck. The person she is picking up on is 32 years old with a long scruffy black coat, dark hair. He is shouting and swearing. The name James McCann and the date 1867 are mentioned. He was a bare knuckle fighter and a thief.

1.20am Pam knocks on the wooden stool and tries to get a response. She then pick up on the words 'Bitch Bleed to Death' which just keeps getting repeated over and over again in her head, followed by the words 'Clever Bastards' spoken in a broken accent.

There is an image of bubbles coming from a persons mouth and also the image of a lions face.

Pam feels that there were 1 women and 4 men killed here on the same day and gets the names Crazy Jack and Elizabeth Folly who she feels was a street urchin. The prison guards are forcing them on their knees to pray.

Another name that comes through is Thomas Bell and the date 1892. Pam feels that Thomas was a bit more 'well to do' than the others and wears a large hat. For some reason the guards did not shackle him.

The big grey horse from earlier on is felt again and the name Clarence is given.

Pam then picks up on a song/rhym 'Soldier Blue, Soldier Blue'. People seem to be singing it to take away their fear. Pam picks up on the sentence 'Wee Canny Lassy'

1.30am There is a noise in the corner next to the door. Most likely water dripping from the roof.

1.35am Pam feels freezing. She is 23?C and shouldn't feel cold.

The seats on which we are sitting are 14'C/15'C but Pam's is 21'C.

1.45am Mark and Pam feel a cold draught on their faces. There is the noise of flowing water from the bar area which is most likely caused by the various pumps and fridges that are situated there.

11.50am Pam calls out. No immediate response.

2.00am Pam is sitting in the left hand cell with her back resting against the door. Mark is opposite by the bar and Derek is over near the entrance. Pam is suddenly hit on the side of the head with a stone about 2.5cm across. She says it stung quite a bit. There is crumbling masonry in that area but she is certain she hadn't brushed against it.
