North East Air Museum - Investigation Report

Northern Ghost Investigations were fortunate to be allowed the opportunity to conduct an overnight Team Only investigation at the North East Air Museum in Sunderland.

How we Heard About The North East Air Museum

A few members of Northern Ghost Investigations lived near to the North East Air Museum and they had always heard the stories concerning the site.

In addition to that, the North East Air Museum was a popular location for other Paranormal Investigation Groups and so word gets around.

The History Of The North East Air Museum

At this time, the North East was the only major area of the United Kingdom not covered by any form of vintage aircraft group. Indeed, the only enthusiast aviation group in the whole region was Air North which mainly indulged in aircraft spotting. As the number of people attending the informal group meetings began to swell the decision was taken to establish a more formal organization and thus the Northumbrian Aeronautical Collection was born.

The museum can be found very close to it's original site at RAF Usworth, an airfield that subsequently became Sunderland Airport, and started life in October 1916 as a Flight Station for 'B' Flight of No. 36 squadron and was originally called Hylton, although when being prepared it was known as West Town Moor. Due to an increase in German bombing raids and the heavier commitment of RNAS aircraft in France, the Royal Flying Corps took over the task of Home Defence, setting up a number of squadrons, with flights spread over the length of the British coastline. The Northeast was protected by No. 36 Home Defence squadron, which was formed by Capt. R. O. Abercromby at Cramlington on 1 February 1916. Plans for 'B' flight were put in place in 1916 as a consequence of the recent Zeppelin raids on the area. An area of land just North of the river Wear between Washington and Sunderland was set aside for the new landing field.

The occupation of Hylton by No.36 squadron introduced the Wearsiders to the sight and sound of aircraft. However this introduction did not go entirely smoothly. On 24 May 1917, Lt Phillip Thompson took off from Usworth to air test a newly fitted machine gun, over the sea, in preparation for that evenings anti-Zeppelin patrols. On his return from the coast at 8:45 p.m. the pilot observed a crowd on the Green at Southwick. In order to gain a closer look the pilot brought his aircraft low over the Green. Unfortunately whilst flying towards the sun the pilot failed to observe a large flag pole on the center of the Green. The port wing of the aircraft was torn off by the impact, the aircraft falling to the ground at the corner of Stoney Lane. Remarkably the pilot survived the mishap, but unfortunately five people were killed and eight others injured on the ground.

By August 1918 Hylton was in use by 'A' Flight and continued as such until the Armistice when it was just beginning to become known as Usworth. No. 36 squadron's HQ moved here in November 1918, the main equipment now being Bristol F.2b's. The Bristol F2b was one of the best fighters of the War despite being a two seater, it was used as a single seater with a sting in the tail. It was powered by a 275 hp Rolls Royce Falcon inline engine, with a top speed of 125 mph at sea level compared with the 90 mph of t he B.E. 12's.

When the squadron was ready for its new role it moved once more in November 1918 to Ashington leaving a detachment at Hylton and with peace being declared, it was finally disbanded on 13 June 1919.

The only known reminder of 36 squadron remaining in the North East is a stone monument erected on Anfield Plain in memory of Sgt Pilot Arthur John Joyce (9935) who was killed when his F.E. 2b, A5740, crashed on patrol at Pontop Pike on 13 March 1918. Sergeant Joyce had started his fateful mission from Usworth that evening.

The Paranormal History Of The North East Air Museum

A man called Shaw, a pilot who was once based at RAF Usworth, is reported to wander around the museum and it's hangers. His journey eventually leads him into the workshop, where his footsteps can be heard, and into the adjoining canteen where a cupboard containing the smashed up parts of an old engine can be found. Shaw, allegedly, died in action and when people retrieved his corpse from the wreckage of his crashed aeroplane, they found everything was present - except his boots.

Shaw can be spotted around the North East Air Museum - or at least his legs can. There have been numerous reports from witnesses claiming to have seen a pair of black-trouser legs (no boots) walking around the main hanger when people have looked underneath and through the aircraft stored there. It is also said that Shaw calls out for people asking for help - perhaps to help him find his boots? - and also is said to throw things at people to get their attention.

There is also a story of a woman and a man connected to the site from when it was a World War II airfield. Her husband was away fighting for King and country on some campaign during the war and the lady - sadly we have no name for her - was having an affair with another man based at RAF Usworth. She used to meet with him within the main hanger as previously there was a medical center attached to it - perhaps she was a nurse stationed there? Unfortunately, they both died in a car accident and they can be heard talking to each other as well as seen walking together throughout the hangers and are also said to be responsible for flashing lights in the hangers.

Another story told be the staff at the museum regards a spirit they call George. It is said that one hot summer during the war the man whom they call George, was sunbathing on the roof of one of the hangers, fell asleep and then woke with a start, rolled and fell to his death.

Finally, there is the story of Frank. There are 3 Franks associated with the site but the Frank we are interested in had an injured leg and used to get around with the use of a walking stick. There have been many reports of the click-click-click as Frank still walks around the hangers using his stick for support, today.

North East Air Museum - Baseline Report

Before every investigation we conduct a thorough examination of the location site to highlight anything within the environment which may interfere or influence with any later investigation through the night. For instance, if there is a railway line nearby which, with the passing of trains throught the night, could cause virbrations in within the location - we'll make sure it's noted down

We also take readings throughout the investigation site (see actual locations) so as to set a baseline which all further readings can be compared againt. At present, we currenly take readings concerning the Temperature, Humidity and of the local Electro-Magnetic Field.

Possible Environmental Influences At The North East Air Museum

Powerlines

There were a number of power lines near to the museum. Although none carried over the head of the museum - the proximity of the power lines could influence any EMF readings and any high emissions of EMF from these lines could conceivably effect people.

Main Road

Running close to the North East Air Museum is the A19 - one of the major motorway arteries snaking its way through the North East. Although not right next to the museum - in the dead of night, traffic from the A19 could carry.

Wind Trap

The museum is surrounded by large empty fields on three sides and the wind can whip in quite severely. Together with the corrugated iron hangers - any wind could be an influence upon the investigation.

North East Air Museum - Workshop

Workshop - Floorplan

This image is merely a representation of the location and not to be taken as an exact

Situated in a small corrugated hanger, The Workshop - as the name suggests - was an area where small repair jobs could be made by people located within the museum. There we're numerous work desks, shelving units and items of equipment lying around the room.

Attached to the workshop was a small canteen area with a few tables and chairs along with a boiler for tea and coffee which we had to turn off because of the noise it was making.

The Workshop was cluttered, untidy and dusty.

Baseline Report

Dereliction

There was a lot of junk lying around and the workshop was very dusty. People walking around would not only bump into workdesks and machinary but would also stir up a lot of dust.

Vermin

Although no evidence could be found of any vermin its entirely possible due to the surrounding area of the North East Air Museum and the cluttered state of the Workshop that some mice could have been present.

Window Draughts

Although no windows in the main workshop itself - the entrance to the workshop wouldn't close properly and not only did it bang every so slightly in the wind it would also occassionaly contribute to a breeze near the doorway.

Environment Readings

No baseline readings were taken in this location

Group Vigils

What follows are the group vigils that took place in this location.

Note : These vigils are presented purely in Group Order and in no way reflect the order
in which each group visited the location during the night.

Group 1

NGIers - Jay, Neil, Joyce

Guests - Christine

Almost immediately upon entering the Workshop all heard a rumbling sound - the source of which could not be confirmed - although it is possible that it may have originated outside of the workshop.

Neil and Joyce sat inside the canteen that was adjoining the workshop and kept reporting the door leading to a small cupboard containing rusting engine parts kept opening and closing by itself. At the doorway leading to the canteen and the general area around that door (a small corridor leading to a fire escape), Christine reported feeling uneasy and on edge.

Joyce (a medium) felt that there was a spirit sitting in the chair nearest to the door that kept opening and felt that his name was Frank. She picked up on three Franks - a tall Frank, a short Frank and a third Frank who she said had something different altogether to him. She later picked up that he walked with a limp.

Back in the workshop, Jay heard what sounded like stones dropping and from the corner opposite the doorway and to the left was another area that Christine felt extremely uneasy about. Neil and Joyce had entered the workshop now and Joyce felt a cold spot close to the corner that Christine had commented on. Jay and Neil investigated and both reported a breeze on the back of their necks both in the corner that Christine reported, along the wall and near to the toilet. Isolated cold spots could we're reported in this area.

From the corner Christine had reported upon her un-easiness, Jay reported seeing a black shape moving within the darkness along a wall of shelves. The darkness - darker than the natural dark in the room and almost like a shadow - moved along the wall of shelves before dissipating.

Not long after this, both Jay and Neil reported hearing a rustling sound.

Group 2

NGIers - Andrea, Mike

Guests - Darrin

Andrea knew of a supposed spirit of a man who was supposed to haunt this area, she had been told by someone who had took part in an Investigation there before and also she spoke to Keith (caretaker at NEAM) about it as well, no one else knew about it.

This room was full of engines and plane parts. There was a small Tea room at the top of the workshop room and earlier during Baseline testing Mike and Andrea had picked up a reading of 2mg to 3mg on the Emf within the cupboard and it felt very cold.

All three of us sat in the dark and called out, we felt like there was some one in the room with us. We called out for Shaw the man who is supposed to haunt these areas and he is the same one who walks in the
cupboard where previously we had a Emf reading.

We went back into the main workshop room and Mike saw a figure follow us out and was behind us. It was now starting to get light but still felt very weird.

Group 3

NGIers - Anita, Pam

Guests - Ethel

Due to an incident that occurred within The Main Hanger while all groups we're together, an investigation for this group within the Workshop never took place due to Pam feeling unwell.

Group 4

NGIers - Sue, Danny, Sean, Maureen

This group was aware of a story involving a man called Shaw who has reportedly been seen and heard in the workshop.

Sue and Sean conducted a calling out session whilst using a pendulum to try and make contact with an Edward Shaw. When asked if Edward was with the group - the pendulum swung for Yes. Asked if Edward was over the age of 30 when he died, the pendulum swung for a Yes. Further research showed that Shaw had actually died at the age of 21.

Whilst the pendulum session was being conducted, Danny reported a flash of light in the area of Sean while he was holding the pendulum.

The EMF reader the group had with them began to react to something in the room. It kept taking intermittent readings of an EMF field in the workshop approximately 2-3mg and seems to be responding to our calling out session. Maureen felt a rush of cold air go past her and then seconds later, the EMF would spark into life again. We asked for Edward to make the EMF reader react - and it would.

We also noticed a considerable increase in temperature within the workshop - from 15c when we entered to 20c when we finally left.

North East Air Museum - Display Room

Display Room - Floorplan

This image is merely a representation of the location and not to be taken as an exact

Just off the Main Hanger was a small Display Room with numerous display cabinets, small aircraft engines, hanging models and a little air raid shelter. There was even a test nuclear weapon in there.

Compared to the Main Hanger it was attached to, this room was small, tidy and clean.

Baseline Report

Window Draughts

There were a couple of skylights that seemed to rattle occasionally as the wind picked up outside.

The Display Room was located right next to our base room in the reception area and as soon as we entered, Christine felt an uneasy cold spot next to the Rolls Royce Merlin engine (to the right of the door) but as she moved away from the engine, began to feel ok.

Chris was with us at this time and he mentioned there was a lady present at the top of some stairs that led to a small office - Joyce claimed that her name was Mary. Neil was walking up the stairs at the time and when Chris mentioned about the woman, Jay, who was standing next to Chris immediately took a photo of the stairs and got a bright white orb in the area, which may have been a reflection, but was the only anomaly picked up on camera in the display room.

Jay heard a rumbling sound from beyond the door in the reception area while Neil, who was sitting on the stairs at this point, reported he was absolutely freezing. Jay was getting shivers from roughly the same area where Neil was sat.

Christine briefly noticed a strange shape moving across the wall - it was almost round but it's edges we're jagged. When Jay took a photo of the area in question, nothing appeared on the resulting image.

Joyce was sat in the corner of the room for a while and through her guide was asking for any spirits to show themselves - she did at one point report movement amongst the engines - close to where Christine had earlier reported a cold spot.

Group 2

NGIers - Andrea, Mike

Guests - Darrin

Andrea and Mike thought they saw a figure of a man standing behind the display unit. Darrin could hear footsteps. Moments later all three of us heard footsteps, fast steps. We all had the feeling off been watched.

Andrea, Mike and Darrin heard a big bang from the next room to them, this was the Main hanger room. They were all aware that there was no other group in there at that time. They heard more bangs, so went next door to Investigate. [p7]The room felt very cold, and Andrea thought she saw legs walking behind the Aeroplanes. Earlier on that evening while Andrea and Mike were conducting baseline tests she thought she had seen legs as well, thinking they were a group member but found out later that all other members where in the other room. They went back into the Display Room.

Chris (team medium) came into the display room with the caretaker Keith. Chris sensed a man standing on the other side of the room, looking at Chris. He had a small moustache and he had a stick under his arm. Chris also sensed women who were mending or making something, sewing, stitching. Also he sensed lots of equipment or heavy items been carried around, he also sensed a woman standing at the top of the stairs she had blonde hair. Andrea and Darrin went up the stairs to have a look and felt very uneasy.

Andrea's Digital cameras batteries were very low even though she had only charged them fully before the investigation and also Darrin's camera started turning itself off.

We were about to leave the display room when something was thrown - Darrin felt it whiz right past his ear and it came from an area of the room that was behind everybody and empty. We were all together and accounted for and it sounded like it had hit one of the display units. When we investigated we came across a 1p coin. We asked for something else to be thrown and moments later a stone was thrown at us.

Group 3

NGIers - Anita, Pam

Guests - Ethel

Pam described a man who was standing on the stairs - he was an officer type - and very smartly dressed although she could get no more information concerning him.

One of the Spitfire models that was hanging from the roof kept swaying backwards and forwards - we were unable to determine whether there was a draft coming into the room. Later Pam - hoping that the model would act as a large pendulum - attempted to make requests of spirits in the room to move the model at her command and she did meet with some success.

We could hear various taps and knocks from within the Display Room and at one point we were sure we heard some footsteps.

Group 4

NGIers - Sue, Danny, Sean, Maureen

In all the Display Room was not active at all for us. We attempted calling out to any spirits that may have been present and got nothing in return.

The only thing that was worth noting was when Sean reported that he saw somebody walk past one of the display cabinets in the center of the room. None of the other members of the group witnessed this and nor where any other members of the group near the display cabinet at the time.

North East Air Museum - Hanger 1

Hanger 1 - Floorplan

This image is merely a representation of the location and not to be taken as an exact

The second largest location on the site, Hanger 1 contained a small number of aeroplanes and helicopters that we're on display. Although the hanger was fairly open, it was difficult to see from one side to the other due to both the darkness and the aircraft.

The hanger was relatively uncluttered, however, the potential for dust was quite high.

Baseline Report

Dereliction

Although not derelict, the Hanger was open plan and extremely dusty.

Window Draughts

The door to the Hanger rattled as the wind blew outside.

Shortly after entering Hanger 1 Jay, Christine and Neil all reported hearing a scraping noise against one of the aeroplanes that were stored here - nobody was near the aircraft at the time.

Joyce was intrigued about the Royal Navy Rescue helicopter that was stored here. She could swear that something was at the top of the helicopter but upon investigation nothing unusual could be seen. Shortly thereafter, something undetermined fell to the floor in front of Joyce. We thought at first that it may have been water (it was raining outside) but no water mark could be found on the stone floor.

Chris had joined us at the point and he claimed there was a man present called John who was of a low rank but not a pilot. He was possibly a maintenance worker or somebody who refuelled aircraft. He also sensed a woman who seemed to be lugging something - perhaps supplies.

In response to a request by Neil for an acknowledgement that there were any spirits present, he got an immediate response of two fairly loud raps from an area around a Saudi plane that was in storage. Upon investigation, no source of the noise could be found. Tapping around the hanger continued periodically for the rest of out stay, specifically around the Royal Navy Rescue helicopter.

Group 2

NGIers - Andrea, Mike

Guests - Darrin

We went into our next Location. After a few minutes of calling out, Andrea started to get a headache or a pain right across the eyes and at the same time Mike said he felt the same. We felt like there was someone with us.

We walked around the room and from no where something was thrown from behind us, we were altogether so it wasn't one of us. It was a nail that had been thrown. Keith, the caretaker, joined us shortly thereafter and after examining the nail, informed us that it was a type of nail not normally used on-site. Chris then came in and sensed a man in the hanger, but he also felt sick and uneasy and had to leave.

After calling out for some time, Keith felt he had been poked in the back very hard. Also we heard bangs and noises coming from the room.

Group 3

NGIers - Anita, Pam

Guests - Ethel

Immediately upon entering Pam sensed a man in the hanger who was working with a hammer against metal. Ethel also noted numerous cold spots.

Pam then picked up on a man called Clive Sanderson who was telling us all to back off. All this time, Ethel could hear footsteps from within the hanger - footsteps that were seemingly following us around the hanger.

Pam was picking up plenty of names within the hanger. A Sergeant Radcliffe, who she said worked here was present as was a Harvey Spencer. All the while various thuds and taps originating within the hanger could be heard by all members of the group - some of them in direct response to requests. Another man was picked up - he was dressed in overalls and was associated with the name Mr Styles.

Pam now picked up on a woman, dressed in black, perhaps with the name Rosslyn. Shortly after this, Pam reported somebody or thing had just pushed past her.

Both Anita and Ethel reported lower back ache while in the hanger.

Group 4

NGIers - Sue, Danny, Sean, Maureen

We positioned ourselves inside one of the helicopters (Royal Navy Rescue) within the hanger and proceeded with a calling out session. After a quiet start we eventually heard a loud bang on the shell of the helicopter.

We continued to call out for a short time and got further loud bangs on the shell of the helicopter.

We could find no explanation for these noises upon later investigation.

North East Air Museum - Hanger 2

Hanger 2 - Floorplan

This image is merely a representation of the location and not to be taken as an exact

Although named as Hanger 2, this location was effectively a larger Workshop than location 1. This is where small aircraft in various stages of repair we're stored and we're no doubt worked upon by people at the museum.

The hanger was extremely cluttered with both aircraft, aircraft parts and equipment and the dust potential was high.

Baseline Report

Dereliction

Another workshop of sorts and full of clutter and dust. Some parts of this Hanger were unreachable.

Vermin

Who knows what was hidden amongst the clutter? Anything could have made home in the deep recesses of the Hanger which we couldn't reach.

Floor Uneven

The floor wasn't necessarilly uneven, but with the amount of clutter, it would be easy to catch a foot on something and stumble.

Upon entering Hanger 2, Jay felt drawn to the far end of the hanger. After an adventure in clambering over and under things to get to where he wanted to be, he could hear faint footsteps in the area around him - he also picked up an orange shape in a picture on his camera - possibly something obscuring the lens, but strange none-the-less.

Joyce felt as though she picked up on a German. She couldn't get anymore information concerning him but felt as though he was associated with something stored in this hanger.

Keith, the caretaker, joined us and told us stories of where people had placed their hands on the nose of one of the small aircraft stored within the hanger and had asked for the aircraft to move. There had been quite dramatic results in the past, so we thought we gave it a try. The plane certainly seemed to be vibrating or pulsing. Jay put this down to the pulsing of blood through our hands which was possible, however, this would not explain a slight movement sideways of the plane and then an apparent tipping forwards of the plane. Both Neil and Jay attempted to forcibly move the plane but found it impossible.

Joyce again mentioned about Germans. This time she was picking up 4 of them instead of the earlier 1. But again she could not provide any further details other than she felt they were associated with something in the hanger.

We all moved down to the bottom of the hanger and began calling out to any spirits that may have been present. We got a response in the form of a bang on something metallic and hollow. We asked for another acknowledgement and received a further bang in response.

Group 2

NGIers - Andrea, Mike

Guests - Darrin

We all felt a bit strange in this room. Darrin could not stop coughing, felt his chest was hurting and had to go outside for a few minutes break, soon after he felt fine. Andrea and Darrin felt a bit agitated and Mike felt quite uneasy.

Chris joined us and sensed 3 men, one was called Jeremy but his nickname was Jazz. We felt like we were been watched all the time

Darrin and Mike thought they saw a figure following us out the location.

Group 3

NGIers - Anita, Pam

Guests - Ethel

Upon entering this hanger, Pam could sense a woman and 2 children but could not find any relationship with anything in the hanger. We felt there was a very cold atmosphere within this hanger.

Ethel kept getting dizzy periods and Pam felt very nauseous and felt she had a panic attack coming on, she felt that there was a lot of negative energy in the room.

Before we left the hanger, Pam got the image of a man with a bandage around his head and dragging his leg across the floor.

Group 4

NGIers - Sue, Danny, Sean, Maureen

After a quiet start, Sean, Sue and Danny each heard a bang come from an unoccupied area of the hanger that upon investigation could not be explained.

Having been informed of the story of where people have placed hands on the nose of an aircraft in here, we though we'd try it out. We heard a number of creaking sounds from the rear of the hanger whilst we were calling out and a 3c rise in temperature was recorded. Chris was with us and he sensed flames on his hands and of viewing them through water.

We moved to the back of the aircraft - nearer to where the creaking noises could be heard - placed our hands back on the plane and tried calling out again and once more, the creaking sounds from within the hanger could be heard.

Sue then attempted to make contact with any spirits using a pendulum. She picked up a man (George) who was a member of the Home Guard and who died between 1950 and 1955. We recorded a dramatic drop in temperature in the vicinity of the pendulum whilst Sue was calling out of approximately 3c.

North East Air Museum - Main Hanger

Main Hanger - Floorplan

This image is merely a representation of the location and not to be taken as an exact

The Main Hanger on site was to be the largest of our locations. It contained approximately 18 aircraft and although completely open, the aircraft themselves made it impossible to both see and walk easily from one area to another. Only a roped off walkway around the hanger was clear enough to traverse without having to duck under aircraft wings etc.

Other than the aircraft, the room was fairly uncluttered and due to the size of the hanger, the dust potential was quite high.

Baseline Report

Dereliction

The Main Hanger was large and open and th potential for dust in the air was high.

Window Draughts

There a few knocks and bangs in the Main Hanger caused by the wind rattling the odd skylight and loose bit of corrugated iron.

Upon entering the Main Hanger it had begun to rain quite heavily and the noise of the rain rattling on the corrugated steel was obviously causing problems.

Above the sound of the rain though, both Jay and Christine both heard a noise that sounded as though something was being moved within the hanger. We had a look around, but could not see anything that looked out of place. We also heard noises near the sea plane and Christine had the feeling that someone was watching her from behind some of its windows.

Just before we were to leave the Main Hanger - Jay heard what sounded like two metal pipes being hit together. Neil quickly followed in hearing the sound and so the two of them set off to try and locate the source. The sound kept repeating - it wasn't rythmic or anything of that sort, just the sound of two pipes hitting against each other periodically. At one point, Neil and Jay felt they had localised the sound - only to find that the next time it rang out, it seemed to be elsewhere in the hanger. They followed it there and it then moved again. Ultimately, they could not locate the source of the metal pipes and had to leave it behind.

Group 2

NGIers - Andrea, Mike

Guests - Darrin

Our group went into this location after we took part in a group activity held within this Location.

All of the group members felt that the Main Hanger was very cold. We called out and heard bangs coming from one of the unoccupied area of the Main Hanger. We walked over and investigated the area in question and then heard noises all around us whose source we could not locate.

We began walking around the roped off walkway that led around the outer edge of the hanger. Suddenly, Mike shouted out as he claimed to see a black figure behind us, following and then chasing us. Needless to say, this startled us a little and we all ran towards the exit. When we settled ourselves down, we re-entered the Hanger and started calling out again and although got nothing as a direct response to our calling out we did feel uneasy and kept seeing dark figures in the corners and at the far end of the Hanger.

Group 3

NGIers - Anita, Pam

Guests - Ethel

Immediately upon entering the Main Hanger, Pam claimed that she could hear sighing and bangs from within - she could also sense a very cold atmosphere.

At one point we saw what appeared to be a dark shadow moving within the hanger, the EMF monitor also began to pick something up in the vicinity.

From all around the hanger we could hear knocks and taps but could not find any source of the noises. Pam picked up upon a spirit called Margaret who was known as Marge. There were more taps and knocks within the hanger, some of which appeared to be coming from the other side of the hanger wall. Pam reported that something grabbed at her coat and pulled.

Ethel reported a pain in her right shoulder, before the group once more saw a dark shadow in the corner of the hanger that did not appear to be natural. Just before we left the hnager, we saw a blue light move across one of the aircraft.

Group 4

NGIers - Sue, Danny, Sean, Maureen

Sue and Sean both attempted to call out to any spirits that were present within the Main Hanger - in response they both, and Danny, heard a bang from an unoccupied part of the hanger.

At one point, Sue reported seeing a pair of legs walking near to the main entrance of the hanger - nobody from the group was in that area of the hanger at that time.

We heard a series of other bangs during the course of our stay within the hanger also and Maureen, using the dowsing rods near to some aircraft wreckage, picked up on activity within the area.

After being told a story by Keith, the caretaker at the air museum, about 2 spirits which have been reported entering the Main Hanger, walking through the aircraft that are stationed there and stopping at the site of an engine that is on display where they would proceed to work upon it - we decided to hold a group vigil at the location of the engine to see if we could pick anything up.

We all gathered around the engine at approximately 1:30am which is roughly the time that this phenomonam occurs. Keith told us that even when things haven't been seen, people have still heard the sound of metal on metal as though somebody is hitting something with a hammer.

We sat in silence, waiting. Firstly there was a report by Jay that he could hear an air-raid siren - and this was confirmed by Pam who said she could also hear that. Shorly thereafter, people began to report hearing footsteps in the hanger as though somebody was walking around the guided roped-off walkway and Andrea reported seeing dark legs walking amongst the aircraft. We also registered a number of localised cold spots in and around the vicinity.

After a short while of sitting silently, we all stood up and formed a large circle where we tried calling out to any spirits who were present to make themselves known. Again, various noises could be heard from with then Hanger, but then suddenly, Pam swayed forwards and backwards before collapsing in a heap on the floor. She was out cold for about two minutes.

Naturally, we closed down the circle immediately and called a halt to the group activity.
