The Learning Center

We classed the three rooms at the top end of the Railway Museum as the Learning Center. There was a small office area filled with desks and office equipment that was no doubt used daily by the museum staff. Adjoining this room there was a small storage cupboard that, when the lights were turned off, was pitch black.

Across the corridor from this office was a large room with an open floor that was used as part of the learning center. Mainly school children visiting the museum in large groups could be seated here and told about the museum. There were a couple of smallish tables and numerous chairs within the room and would later be the perfect location for when we conducted the nights Seance.

Along a small corridor and passed a couple of locked doors, we came to the Learning Center proper. Obviously furnished and aimed at young children, the Learning Center consisted of two small room separated by a 'doorless' doorway. In the second of the two rooms was a table and chairs that were obviously for small children to sit and play at, while the nearest of rooms to the entrance played out as a storage room and a room for perhaps older children.

Group 1 Report : Kris Sharon Carl Sue Jay

Kris sensed the name Mildred and Sharon got the name Sarah while we sat in the main large room of the learning center.

Jay felt his chest feel heavy and then Kris sensed a male presence with them in this location and felt there was a frightened spirit. Sharon then sensed the name Ed.

Jay went off by himself to childrens area of the learning center and in the doorway that seperated the two rooms came across an area where he became all cold and shivery and had the hairs on the back of his next stand up on end. Just as he was leaving this room, he felt something tug on the back of his jeans near to his ankle.

Funnily enough, Kris went into this room shortly afterwards (Jay never mentioned what he had experienced in the room) and he reported the exact same spot where he became all cold and shivery. There was breeze or draft that could be located in the area. Kris also reported that something seemed to grab his arm and for a while claimed that his arm was quite painful.

Back in the main room of the learning center, we counducted a small calling out session and we did receive a number of taps and knocks from the area where the chairs in the room where stacked up.

Group 2 Report : Mike Andrea Mark Heather David Gemma

We went into our 4th Location. We tried a bit more of Glass dev and again got the woman who was 49, was this the same woman who we got in the display room. We asked for a sign to make us cold, We then felt very cold.

Also we asked to move the blinds in the room. Moments later Andie and Mike thought they could see the blinds move but this could have been a small breeze. Mike then jumped up as he felt someone had touched his arm, he actually saw a hand and thought it was Andie then when he realized it wasn't Andiyhe jumped as he got a shock. We heard a few knocks and clicks then went onto our next location.

Group 3 Report : Dave Nikki Jean Sharon Craig

This was our final Location of the night and we found it to be an extremely quiet location.

We called out to any spirits who were present but got nothing in return from anyone or thing that may have been present earlier in the seance that we held in these rooms.

Jean thought she coud see a green flash in this room but it could not be confirmed by anybody else.

Group 4 Report : Bruce Pam Ian Julie

We tried some experiments in this location such as a glass divination but the glass divination didn't produce much.

We also did some calling out in the room didn't seem to get much at first but as we continued we did hear some knocks and we all felt cold breezes at the same time.

Group 5 Report : Danny Kate Ian Paul Andrew

Starting temp in this room was 19oc and it rose to 25oc during our vigil. However, Emf readings were unsteady due to power cables running in the area.

Danny asked the guests to call out. The room was very quiet and we didn't really experience a lot from this, but some members of our group reported that they felt that they were been watched and also felt their faces been touched.

The Old Lavatories

Just off from the main platform display hall were the original toilets that were associated with the station when it was in use.

The room consisted of 2 old style urinals against the north and east walls and in the center of the room was a large free standing urinal that allowed up to 4 men to stand around.

To the west were 6 cubicles that today were being used for storage purposes and in fact, 4 of the cubicles were locked.

Next to the entrance to the lavatories was a small display room that, although was locked off, contained a stuffed Jack Russell, amongst other things, that could be see through the window!!

Group 1 Report : Kris Sharon Carl Sue Jay

Sharon feels a funny feeling on her neck next to one of the cubicles. She feels her neck is tightening. Jay also reported feeling a little dizzy in the same cubicle.

Both Kris and Sharon feels a pain across there stomach's. Sharon feels a little sick and left the lavatories for a short while.

Our team medium, Chris, then joined our group for a short while and claimed to hear a sweeping noise and sensed both a man and a woman who were present but could give no more details at theis timen.

Sue felt a breeze. Chris also sensed a man who has no teeth in his 60's he is a maintence or handyman. Sue and Jay feel like their heads are going to explode. Kris gets a pain in his lower back. Jay keeps getting an image of a man in uniform maybe a policeman or a ticket collector present here.

Group 2 Report : Mike Andrea Mark Heather David Gemma

This was our last location of the night.

Andie called out. The room did become quite cold and there was a temp drop of 5oc although nobody picked up on any noises or feelings. We felt fine in this room.

About 5 mins into the calling out Andie reported that she got a bit of a headache but it only lasted for a few minutes then she felt fine.

Nothing much happenned in this location to report.

Group 3 Report : Dave Nikki Jean Sharon Craig

Our 1st Location were the lavatories which contained parts such as the original floor tiling and urinals.

We called out but got nothing of note in repsonse. We did pick up on the name of Carl in here but generally felt the location to be quiet.

After some time in here it was time to move onto our next Location.

Group 4 Report : Bruce Pam Ian Julie

Everyone of us felt cold in this location and we all felt like we were being watched.

Clicking noises heard. A Thomas was picked up on by Pam. He claims he does not want to return here. A tutting noise is heard like a person is saying tut tut. Knocking and raps are heard in conjunction with asking questions and responding. Pam had a vision of a arm reaching up for help maybe. Faint moaning noises could be heard. There was a shadow seen across the wall and Pam feels the wall is false and not original. Pam and Bruce felt like they had been poked in the back. Also a few people reported that it felt like they were been touched.

Group 5 Report : Danny Kate Ian Paul Andrew

At first we felt stupid going into some toilets and calling out. So to begin with we sat outside and tried to use the pendulum with some amazing results with it almost dancing to our requests.

We did eventually go into the lavatories. There was no EMF readings at first. And the temp was steady.

Danny asked if Kate wanted to use the pendulum to see if we could get any results in this location and sure enough we did.

We Picked up on a Edward and Jeannette. She was in her 70-80's, she either lived close or was just passing she as she had nothing to do with the Location at all.

We asked a series of questions and got some good feedback. At this point Danny checked the EMF readings around Kate as she was taking part in the pendulum experiment and we got a reading of 2-3mg and whenever we asked a question and got it right the pendulum would go mad and also the EMf did as well for no discernible reason.

We could feel cold breezes going around our hands and this has got to be one of the best experiences that the people in the group had ever experienced on a ghost investigation.

Station Platform (Top)

The station platform was a large rectangular area stretching about 50m in length and 10m in width. Dominating the room were a number of railway engines that were lined up end to end along the railway track that ran through the center of the station.

Situated around the platform area were a couple of other smaller engines, display cabinets and oddities. There were also a couple of areas which could be entered by people.

At the top end of the platform there was a small closed off cafe on one side of the platform and on the other side, there were a set of stairs that led down into the cellar / basement of the station (the area where the story of Durham and the mysterious man and his dog took place). Also at the top end of the platform was the original booking and ticket office which we could access.

The Cafe consisted of approximately a dozen small tables and chairs and the windows looked out over one of the train engines that sat on the tracks.

The Cellar, meanwhile, was reached by descending a set of stone steps. The room today was being used as a boiler room and consisted of various pieces of machinery and pipes. On one wall were two wooden vents - one with slats and the other with a small hole through which the outside world could be seen. This hole naturally blew a cold breeze into the room as well as rainwater and leaves. In the far corner stood a padlocked door which we could not access.

The booking office was now a display room. Various fake packages were strewn across the floor, as well as a bicycle and various other equipment that would have been used in an office such as this. In one corner stood a wax model of a man whose job it was to collect tickets.

Group 1 Report : Kris Sharon Carl Sue Jay

Kris felt pains in his temple on the left side like a headache. Also he sensed that someone was standing in front of him at times.

Footsteps could also be heard and shuffling, no other teams where walking about either in this part of the station. Also a few in the team reported breezes which could be felt. Jay and Sue both felt a pain in their lower backs.

In the side room which is the booking office Kris could sense all the hustle and bustle of a busy working day. A voice came to him and said "they don't like the room to be untidy"

Jay and Sue both went into the celler. It was pitch black and after discovering where the breezes where coming from and how they were blowing the leaves which were present, they both stood in silence, listening. Jay began to call out and they both reported being a little uneasy being down here. Suddenly, there was a very loud bang on the doorway leading into the cellar as though somebody had slammed the palms of both of their hands on the door.

Needless to say, it was a little startling. Sue almost jumped 4 foot off the floor and Jay could actually hear Sues heart pumping away in the darkness. We left the cellar shortly thereafter.

Group 2 Report : Mike Andrea Mark Heather David Gemma

Our team started at the top half of the main hall. We all sat down on the bench and stayed quiet for a little while. Andie started to call out. Mark used the EMF to see if we got any readings but we didnt. A few of us heard a noise behind the small carriage to the right of the glass house. Andie called out again and we heard the noise again. We all then felt very cold.

After a few more minutes we decided to check out the cellar. Andie already knew a few stories about who was supposed to haunt the Railway museum and Mike knew as well so we thought we would try and call out these names.

We went into the cellar and conducted our own seances. There was a cold breeze coming from the vent but we could also feel a breeze from the other end which was weird.

We called out for Thomas or James and Andie and Gemma heard a man's breath or some sort of whisper behind them. Also we heard a banging coming from the door, Mike went and checked it out there was no one there at all. The cellar was very errie and dark. Mike felt something touch his face. We heard a few clicks and knocks.

Group 3 Report : Dave Nikki Jean Sharon Craig

Craig started to get a headache. Sharon called out and we got a tapping noise that was quite consistent. Nikki asked for a sign and to make us feel cold and both her and Sharon then both reported of being cold.

Overall, we felt that part of the station was quiet and never really got much in the way of activity.

Group 4 Report : Bruce Pam Ian Julie

Pam does not feel comfortable. She is drawn to the cellar she can hear a lot going on from there.

A hissing noise is heard in the cellar and also feelings of been touched and tickled. We heard a few knocks and also Pam sensed a singing lady and a few lights/flashes - maybe orbs - were seen and we all felt cold chills around us.

We didn't feel there was much activity on the station platform outside of the cellar.

It was now time to move onto our next Location.

Display Room

These series of rooms, which ran half the length of the station platform right up to the entrance and the reception area, were accessed through a doorway at the bottom end of the station platform.

Numerous display cases informing visitors to the museum about the railway, the trains and the people involved filled the rooms of the Display area.

Group 1 Report : Kris Sharon Carl Sue Jay

Carl and Sharon spent their time in one half of the Display and Jay, Sue and Kris in the other :

Some sort of name change was sensed, not sure whether it had something to do with a person or the building itself. Sharon could hear a squeaking sounds from the Display room. Carl felt a breeze on his right hand and the side of his face. Our Torch went out for no reason. We tried a glass experiment by asking questions and to see if they glass would move with our fingers on it. The glass did move to certain questions we asked. The glass flew of the table at one point and we could feel breezes at all times.

Over with Jay, Sue and Kris ...

We did a mini-seance together but never really picked up on much, so Sue got her crystal pendulum out and tried to see what she could pick up with it. She did claim to see a spirit standing near her but could not get much.

While we were staring at the pendulum, we never actually noticed that one of our torches that was sitting on a nearby display cabinet switched itself on .. it had one of those twist-able ends that you twist of on or off. It was only when we Sue stopped with the pendulum, that we noticed it ..

Another torch belonging to Kriss also flickered and flashed itself on and off at times while we were in the Display Room.

Group 2 Report : Mike Andrea Mark Heather David Gemma

This was our next Location. We called out a few times. Mike felt like something had tried to take the torch from him with force and this made him jump up out of the seat he was sitting in.

A few white lights/flashes were seen by a few of us. We then tried the glass experiment. We got a man called Alfie who was in his 30's who used to be here and also a woman who was 49 called Elizabeth.

We heard a noise like glasses clicking. We couldn't make out if they worked here or visited here. Andie spoke to a lady who knew all about the DRM and she said the display rooms used to be part of a cottage, so after going back and informing the team of this, we realized maybe this is why we didn't get a response as we never actually asked if they lived here. Also cold breezes were felt.

Group 3 Report : Dave Nikki Jean Sharon Craig

Nikki got the date 1940 for this man Jack who seemed to have followed us to from the station to the team room.

Nikki also got the name Delilah. Craig's knee's went very cold and we asked if Delilah was with us but didn't get much response.

We also got the name Gemma but again, got no physical response to whether she was present with us or not.

Group 4 Report : Bruce Pam Ian Julie

We started calling out and started to feel cold.

We thought we saw some orbs as floating around the display room and heard more knocks.

Pam claimed to hear a threatening voice shouting at us to 'Get Out'. We could also hear a whistling sound but couldn't locate it not determine whether it was a person whistling or wind whistling through a gap somewhere.

Station Platform (Bottom)

The station platform was a large rectangular area stretching about 50m in length and 10m in width. Dominating the room were a number of railway engines that were lined up end to end along the railway track that ran through the center of the station.

Situated around the platform area were a couple of other smaller engines, display cabinets and oddities. There were also a couple of areas which could be entered by people.

At the bottom end of the platform where two areas that seemed to draw people to. Firstly, there was an original passenger carriage that we could enter and sit in. It consisted of 4 long benches that ran the entire width of the carriage and inside it was, surprisingly, pitch black.

Another area that seemd to draw people was a stairway and footbridge that crossed over the railway tracks and allowed access from one side of the platfrom to the other.

Group 1 Report : Kris Sharon Carl Sue Jay

Again, we were split into the 2 groups for the first part of the vigil in this location. Sharon and Carl found a nice quiet area in the corner of station, while Sue, Jay and Kris took a comfy seat in an original passenger carriage that dated to the 1800s.

Sharon, whilst calling out, got the name George and both Carl and Sharon heard a few noises which sounded like clicks in response to their requests.

In the carriage after a period of sitting silent and then a short period of calling out: Sue, Jay and Kris then began to hear small taps coming from a corner of the carriage. After a while of sitting, Sue reported that she could see a man sitting in the corner from where the noises were evident.

Sharon and Carl joined the others and confirmed that the noises where coming from the corner (they sat nearer the spot).

Sue, Jay and Kris then left the carriage and took a place on the public footbridge that spanned the tracks. Each of them had an urge of wanting to jump off onto the tracks below (difficult due to safety restrictions. We later heard that a previous group who had investigated the DRM had had strong impressions that were very similar to our own on that bridge.

Group 2 Report : Mike Andrea Mark Heather David Gemma

We sat in the carriage and could hear a few taps from within. We were then joined by our team medium Chris. He sensed a man standing who was holding a machine, he said he could of been selling tickets or something to do with tickets, maybe a ticket man.

Also there was a woman in her 40's who was sitting she looked pretty. Chris says she was not English, maybe Dutch. He said she was smiling. We stayed here a bit longer but got no other indication that anything or anyone was present.

Group 3 Report : Dave Nikki Jean Sharon Craig

We called out here and had some quiet time as well. Sharon got a cold spot at the steel gates. Nikki got the name Jack next to the Ticket office. The name Jack keeps coming to Nikki.

We tried our own small seance and kept getting the name Jack and something to do with a fire. Jean also felt very hot. Nikki asked Jack to make a noise, Sharon heard three steps down the stairs.

We felt lots of people had died. Jack said to Nikki he was the Ticket Man. He yelled Jack angrily in Nikki's Face. It felt like he was stood near the Ticket office in a navy blazer with yellow on and a hat with a peak.

Group 4 Report : Bruce Pam Ian Julie

We decided to walk along the bridge. Pam connected with the name Timothy - he was a young man and also sensed hundreds of soldiers walking around getting of the train. She also sensed there was 7 soldiers standing on the bridge. She got the name Sgt John Porter/Mortimer and she sensed he was a dominant man.

She felt the bridge had been relocated. Pam felt she was getting tapped on her leg, the EMF then went off and gave a high reading. Sgt John, Pam felt had a scar on his face due to wounds, he was just passing through he is not grounded here. We then heard a knocking sound.

Group 5 Report : Danny Kate Ian Paul Andrew

We didn't really get anything at first in this location so we decided to move onto the side room and we did feel some cold spots and one of the guests felt a cold breeze right across his face.

On our way out of the side room we heard the room's door handle been turned but this room was actually locked and there was no one else on the other side. There was no EMF or TEMP drops or rises to note down.
